Sorry, but I think it is inexcusable that I can't go to a particular forum (for example, "General Nursing"), look at the list of threads, and be able to hit a button that will take me to MY first unread post. I should be able to pull up any thread, realize I've read it before, and then hit a button that will take me to my first unread post. These were available features before all the "improvements" were made. Yet they are not available now. I basically only visit a few forums. I SHOULD be able to pull up that forum, see a list of threads, and each thread should have a button that enables the reader to pull up their first unread post. I should NOT have to go to "What's new" and wade through pages and pages of threads from all kinds of forums I'm not interested in. This should be a SIMPLE fix. Why was this changed?

I see nothing about this new site that is an improvement. What were the people in charge thinking?

I'm not usually a negative person, but the fact that people are reporting having to spend hours upon hours to get a handle on this web site is quite telling.

Whatever way you use to get to a list of forums,  your unread content is easily seen. And You don't need to go through What's New button. Do you see the yellow column on the left? the items on the list are broad categories Click on any one of them to see a list of forums within that category.

Once there:

Bold forum means there are new/unread threads

Bold threads means there are unread posts.

At this point you can do two things:

Click on the arrow to the right o jump directly to where you left off, to your last unread post

Click on the title itself and it will take you to that particular post whether or not it is the last unread.

@Horseshoe I too was riled about this change but I just learned that while you cannot go to your first unread post while in the thread (like we used to be able to do), you can do it without the extra steps of going to the "What's New" tab. You'll find the button you're looking for next to the title of the thread. To the right of the title of the thread there will be little icons, one of which will be a little right/up facing arrow. When you hover over it, it says, "Go to last post" but what it really means is 'go to *your first unread* post'.

ITA agreement with you Horseshoe.  I find with each major change I am less inclined to feel welcome around here.  I just can't see why it is necessary to ruin a situation that was working.  I've been on this site since it came back up a few days ago and I still find myself facing a brick wall when I want to navigate to something I might want to see.  And yes, this does hurt my eyes, just like it did the last time the site was changed.  I would think that would be one item of complaint that would be listened to.  I wasn't the only one to complain about the background hurting their eyes after the last change.

Okay, I understand change is often painful ... and I am certainly uncomfortable, because I am still just as confused as I was the first time I logged in to the new look of this forum.

For some reason my brain keeps rebelling every time I try to make sense of the new look. It's like looking a 2 mirrors reflecting each infinitely: One part of your brain knows there are only 2 of them, but another part hooked to visual conceptions says, "Hey! Look at all those mirrors!". I guess I am stuck visually looking at all those mirrors that just don't exist?

The alerts I'm receiving don't seem to make any sort of sense to me. Maybe I should just ignore those, and then ... I am not sure. Maybe it will all become clear in a dream, or vision, or in my tea leaves tomorrow {Maybe the Magic 8 Ball knows? (Try again later) ... Crap}.

I like this site and the people, so I'm not quite ready to just chuck it all in the trash just yet ... but this old dinosaur is very much confused.

Oh, good grief.

THANK YOU for pointing that out, vanilla bean.

So "Go to last post" doesn't really mean go to last post. It means "go to first unread post." And we were supposed to know that how? Silly me. I should have been able to understand that "Go to last post" does NOT mean "go to last post."

They need to change that pronto.

Not a fan of the new look or layout. Not nearly as intuitive as the old lay out. When I first became a member I did not feel confused or unsure about how to find what I was looking for. If this was the layout when I was new to the forum I doubt I would have registered or participated on the site. Im glad AN is trying to make changes but I think they missed the mark here and wish I could get the old lay out back. I feel like im going in circles trying to find my way around the site and its starting to make me dizzy 🤢🤮

In the past, we could hit our user name and were then given options. One of my favorites was the "bookmark" option. Any thread I had posted to or had specifically bookmarked would then appear. Any bookmarked thread with new posts since my last visit would be in bold letters. You could then hit the "read first unread post" option.

Does this still exist? If not, that's annoying. It was literally just a couple of clicks.

Also, I think eliminating the ability to place the cursor over thread titles in order to see the first sentence or so of the post is a mistake. That feature allowed you to skip threads whose subject matter is not clear by virtue of the thread title but that nevertheless don't interest you.

Click ACCOUNT above and scroll to: Manage Followed Content. This is the previous Book mark on the old site.

Currently, we are uncertain if the "first unread post" will be an available option in this followed content area.  @Joe V explained here on page 3: https://allnurses.com/omgosh-did-i-really-lose-t693803/?page=3

The hover feature, @Joe V will need to address future availability.
