hello,

I am starting my first rotation in Maternity (just finishing up my first year of school [bSN]) on Monday and I am totally scared... especially about pt. teaching. I am only 19 and im under the impression no mom is going to rely on me to teach them to breastfeed, or let them handle their baby etc....

We have learned so much in lab and class and I guess im just nervous all around... any tips???

I have not been through the maternity rotation yet. I have found however many get the idea that your more experienced if you practice saying the teachings out loud. Once you feel comfortable talking about what ever you are teaching, people look at you with more respect. It is all in the confidence. You will give away how nervous or new you are to maternity if you are not able to talk about it with out the uhms and ahs that often go with unfamiliar territory.

At least you're female and have the relevant parts. Somehow being a guy makes me have no footing on explaining x, y, and z, even though only a handful of my female classmates have their own kids.
