Finnish nurses constitution law are going to be broke! 13,000 nurses threaten to quit

Posted

To give some basic information to this situation, please read this USA Today news which is made before this situation.

Today Finnish goverment introduced a new law suggestions to the parliament, which makes nurses joint resignations ILLEGAL and forces nearly 8000 nurses of 13,000 to work even if they are resigned from their job in a critical areas (ICU, First aid, etc.).

In Finnish constitution law there is marked a statement which says everyone can choose their own occupation and workplace. If this new law is going to be accepted, this means that nurses can't anymore select their workplace. Nurses are after that marked as slaves.

I hope all of you international users to give a news tip to every media you know.

This is really sad. I don't know what nurses earn in Finland. Is a 24% increase outrageous or not? Would Fins be willing to pay more taxes to pay for the increase? My son lives in Stockholm but has a girlfriend in Finland whom he sees often. If Finland is like Sweden the nurses are severly underpaid (by USA standards). I hope this is resolved quickly.

Finnish nurses are way more underpaid than Swedish colleagues.

For example Swedish nurse are earns 2400 euros minimum in month. Finnish nurse earns 1800 euros minimum. Finnish nurses are trying to get to 2200 euro minimum. Prices and living cost are in Finland and Sweden equal, so there isn't difference in purchase power.

It's even a trend in here to go work in Sweden or Norway (slighty expensive to live) for better wage.

This is why this is so worrying. There isn't even a necessary to raise taxes since state budget is balanced very well.

Even if there would be a reason to raise taxes, 64% of Finnish people are ready to pay more taxes as big poll says.

This is truely stunning.

On Long Island, in New York State, there are about ten Filipino nurses, who mass- resigned from a nursing home, afte enduring horrendous working conditions, low pay, and broken promises from the nursing home who brought them here.

With help from the local District Attorney, who received generous campaign contributions, he charged the nurses with criminal endangerment, and had them arrested. The New York State Board of Nursing, investigated the complaint, and found no wrong doing on the part of the nurses, and that no patients had been harmed. It was all a power showing by the nursing home to intimidate, and scare the nurses.

The matter is still in litigation, and has not been resolved. Google "Sentosa Nursing Homes", Filipino Nurses, Queens, New York, and you will probably get the articles from the Newsday, the Long Island New York, newspaper.

PM me and I will try to sent you the link. But really, try the link to the Newsday. Good Luck!!

That is a terrible oppressive solution.

typo correction made

wow withthe nusing shortage may this is why people dont stay in nursing overworked underpayed and now perseucted and treated like endentued servants this is inreply to fillipino nurse case

maybe there wasn't a baby boom in finland???

i don't understand how you can be forced to work? is this only for mass resignations, like a strike?

that is awful for finnish colleages, personally, i think nurses or the Nurses Union should stand up and do something about it, it is unbelivable that such kind of thing happened in wealthy ,developed country, nurses have been working hard looking after people, having lots of responsilities. something really needed to be done for the fairness of nurses

Gotta bump this. Five more days.

I just can't beleive a civilized member of the European Union is acting so uncivilized.

They need a Martin Luther King.

I would rather go to jail than work under those conditions.

More update to this situation

This patient safety act (slavery act, as nurses call it) went through on parlament today unfortunately. Opposition was against this law and they did the argumenting very good IMO.

Patient Safety Act news

The Union of Health and Social Care Professionals (Tehy) has solid support

This is very shocking situation. Even the union and employer make a working contract, it's still unsure will nurses want to continue their job anymore. Who do you think wants to work as a full time slave? I don't. But I like nursing a lot as a work and I've started to make plans to move Sweden or Norway. For Finland, it's goodbye as some of 13,000 resigned nurses might say.

One more thing. I just hope this slavery act won't become a model for the rest of world: "Finland did it, so why we wouldn't do it also?"

I hope this reminds you how nurses should fight back for their rights and not flex anymore for employer! This is serious!

I am sure all those Finnish nurse refugees could find a job just about anywhere in the world if they are willing to learn a second language.( which I hear most Europeans do anyway.)

As we say in the US ..give me liberty or give me death. I would rather be thrown in jail.

Language is not even a problem! Finnish people usually handle English and Swedish language (Swedish is second main language) very well.

What's more intresting is that how resigned nurses are going have to hide! Many my colleagues have said that they don't open door for any bailiff or unknown people. This is the only way to avoid this slavery act. For example in one county there were forced 130 nurses to work, only 40 were obtainable, because rest of nurses were hiding :lol2:

Doesn't this sound like nazi-imperium where jewish people had to hide from evil nazis?

Well maybe those who decide to go to work Monday should chant the songs Arbeit Mach Frei or The Dachau Song. Make a plaque for the front door of each and every Finnish Hospital like Nazis did for consentration camps. Ntions should get more civilized not more barbaric.
