Hello,
I am a pre-nursing student, finishing up my degree in Biology, only because I realized halfway through that I wanted to get into nursing. I decided to finish up my bachelors degree, and work towards an accelerated program, finishing up all of the prerequisites with positive grades. I currently work in a hospital on a Nephrology Care Unit as a Unit Secretary. It is great experience and I am hoping to use it to my advantage on my application. I was curious of two things - One being, is working in a hospital right now (for monetary gain), as sufficient as volunteering? I have read a lot about volunteering and obviously I do get paid, wondering if this would make a difference against me. Two being, has anyone participated in one of these accelerated programs? My main choice is SUNY Downstate Medical Center, as it caters to the prerequisites that I have, and the cost is very low. Thanks in advance!:)
