how financially prepare myself for nursing

Published

please give me some advice.

i've got accepted into nursing program, starting this fall. i'm a single mom, immigrant, don't have any family or friends, the only income that i have it's my full time job, that i can't keep anymore due to the fact that the program itself is full time (hours overlapping). i tried to find some scholarships, but for some reason the ones that i find are not applicable to me. i'm not sure what to do. i want to continue my dream of becoming a nurse, but how?

please any ideas would be helpful. :crying2:thank you all in advance.

If financial aid is not availabe, the only other thing I can suggest is to find another job with hours that will work. It might mean working some night shifts and/or weekends, but if you want it bad enough, you can do it! Have you talked to the financial aid advisor at your school?

I would suggest applying for FAFSA if you haven't already done so and BOGW.

This is an excellent website for lots of Need Based Scholarships!!! There's a lot to look at, but it's just windows of opportunities for aid. You should also check the next application date for Disadvantage Student Scholarship. It was offered this spring for me and they gave me $500 which helped me a lot since I'm not working right now. And you should try talking to your financial aid advisor if you haven't done so yet.

Good luck. You can do it (:

I don't know what kind of aid that your school has for single parents, but in Texas there are programs for simgle parents that help pay for child care, transportation, and living expenses. There are also programs that help you work while in school (such as work study programs). You might also look into any special skills that you have...sometimes you can get extra income for tutoring bilingual students.

HTH and good luck.

thank you everyone. i filled out a fafsa, but i don't have a response yet. as far as working nights or weekends, i don't have anyone to watch my son, which means i will need to pay a babysitter (probably the same money i make). i thought about looking into state assistance program too, as you know living in ca isn't cheap. i looked into scholarships, but majority of them have curtain requirements that i don't qualify for.

i'm still not giving up, something must work!!! :sniff:
