Hi everyone
I'm applying Kent State and U of South Alabama for Spring 09. I have got a engineering degree from UC Davis in 2006. Therefore, there will be no financial aid for me for the 2nd bachelor except student loan. There is also a limit for the loan too which its $12500. Kent State is charging $8k per semester just for the tuition fees. U of South Alabama is probably cheaper. I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything financial sources that can provide help for students who is seeking 2nd bachelor. I live in Davis, CA. I have been laid off since March and receiving unemployment. However, my unemployment is going to end in December even with the 13 weeks of extension. If I get accepted for the spring 09 either of these 2 Us, where can I get some financial help from CA?

I was in your shoes. An option might be finding hospitals that will underwrite the tuition in exchange for service. Some of these also employ the student during school, so you have walking around money as well as some experience.
So sorry that you are having trouble finding $$$. Do an independent search of grants available, considering everything from ethnic status to living in underserved areas to parents employment or service organizations (anybody in the Rotary??).
Hang in there, it can be done.

I am in the same situation - 2nd degree, little or no subsidized loans available. (I was a UC student also, btw! BA in English Lit from Cal.) I applied for and received a loan from Sallie Mae called the Tuition Answer Loan. (I learned about it here on allnurses!!) It comes directly to you (doesn't go to your school) and can be used for living expenses or whatever. You can apply for it alone, or with a co-signer and it is based solely on credit score. The interest rate is a little high, but I may try to consolidate or refinance after school.
Good luck!

I'm in the same situation...
I have a degree in Psychology and currently work in a hospital as a PCT. My employer has offered to pay for my tuition (up t0 $7200 per yr) if I sign a 2 yr work agreement.
However, I'm not sure where I want to live after graduation, so I'm holding off on signing the contract.
Also, Bush has just signed a bill that has increased the amount of federal loans a second degree bachelor student can borrow. The federal loan limit was increased from $46,000 to $57,000. This bill went into effect sometime in July and my financial aid office has already confirmed that this information is true.***I can only speak for the state of Ohio at my university, so check with your university's financial aid office.***
***Correction to my post above***
The federal loan limit has been increased to $57,500 (not $57,000).
Just wanted to make sure I was providing accurate information...but again, just check with your school's financial aid office.
Thank you so much for sharing. I don't know about this at all.
where do you get this info? I guess I need to show them the officical post thou

Hi getinfall!
I couldn't believe my ears when I first heard the news. I first heard about it 2 months ago on National Public Radio (NPR) and then I followed up with my financial aid office to confirm. Surprisingly, my school never provided any info about this bill...I'm lucky that I'm such a faithful fan of NPR!
I also called FAFSA's toll free # yesterday and they also confirmed the passing of this bill:wink2:
Sounds like I'm gonna be busy tomorrow calling them up! Thanks bra!
