Hello all
I have been accepted into the Weekend/Evening Nursing Program in Missouri but I am currently unemployed and looking for a part-time job. I am single and have been live off my savings (which is almost gone). I have been unemployed over a year and looked for jobs in and outside of healthcare with no luck. I don't even get interviews. I reside in the St. Louis area. I am sure times are tough for many people, economically speaking. Is it true you really have to know someone to get a job in or outside of healthcare. I don't know anyone in healthcare. The networking I have done has not helped.
I applied for financial aid to help pay for schooling. I really don't want to take out anymore student loans. I have applied for several scholarships but I have heard nothing. I really don't want to cancel school for this fall. I dont' know what to do. My family is very unsupportive. They say school is too expensive and to find a job. I have always wanted to be a nurse but i have had several bumps in the road along the way but I keep on going. I am 53 now so I don't think I will be able to come back to school three years from now School is parttime so I would be able to work. I just don't know where to turn. I come from a very dysfunctional family.

I haven't found a job in 2 years.
If you can't get grants or scholarships, you'll have to take out loans. Also look into work study at the school. They don't pay much, but it helps.
Maybe you could become a CNA and try to get a job as a CNA if the demand is high in your area?
Don't let other people try and convince you what you should or should not do. It's YOUR life. You control it. You do what makes YOU happy, no one else. Be selfish for once.
