i was wondering if there is financial assistance available in texas for nursing students that are in need of an operation but cannot afford it?

In Texas? Nope. The only way to a free operation here is through a physician willing to do it pro bono (won't happen), being on Medicaid (difficult to qualify) or fundraising.

Most hospitals have financial assistance, but you will need to file paperwork to prove that you qualify.
i have a herniated disk and i need surgery but my crappy insurance will only cover $1,000 of the cost.the operating charge is 10k.the surgeons fees are 6-7k.any idea on what hospital could help a collin county resident? i tried parkland but they only help with dallas county residents. Is there any better health insurance for students?
The insurance through the school is terrible if you have something major you need done. My husband and I are paying $1000 out of pocket for Cobra. Times are rough.
I suspect the only way you are going to get this done at this time would be to come in through the ER for it to be done emergently. Not sure if that is possible with a herniated disc, for it to be bad enough that they feel they MUST operate now in order to stabilize you.
Collin County does not have any kind of a public hospital like Parkland unfortunately and it is a little known fact that residents outside of Dallas County can't use Parkland. I am so sorry for your conundrum. That stinks.

At the hospital I am currently doing rotations at, I see surgeries (many of them MAJOR) being done frequently on cash-pay (meaning uninsured) clients. In fact, most of the pts I care for are uninsured. And most of them have had surgery. Very expensive surgery.
Please let it be known that some hospitals in the area do the right thing and will operate on you, especially if this condition can worsen and cause more health-threatening issues. Granted, most surgeries will stabilize a patient, but not all conditions I have seen needed to be operated on immediately.
Do NOT get discouraged. If you need a surgery, search your resources. They are out there! Sometimes you just have to dig.
