Filipino Nursing Students Thread : Introduce yourself!

Published

Hello there, I want to make a thread where filipino nursing student can meet and know each other. Please introduce yourselves and Ill start!

I am Jenny Gregorio, I am 2nd year nursing student of University of the philippines college of nursing. I am 18 years old. I chose nursing because my family are all in the united states and they want me to become stable when I go there and they say nursing is badly needed in the U.S.

I am currently having the hard time and not performing "that good" maybe because i did not chose the profession myself. there are many issues in our universities about nursing, one of them is the "POOR" standards of UP when it comes to nursing as shown by the poor performance in the board exams.

The school is beaten badly when it comes to topnotchers by Our lady of fatima university, Silliman and UST. I hope that my batch will perform better in the board exams.

how about you? :)

hi jenny. i'm sure your family only wants the best for you that's why they recommended that you take up nursing. however, following their wishes shouldn't be forever burdensome. unless you're passionate about some other field, feel free to think of your nursing studies as only a phase. your hard work will pay off no sooner than you think.

also, what's "performance" to you? if it's about high grades ALL the time, don't stress yourself crazy my dear. many good nurses weren't A students as you've been probably told countless times. good nurses are driven by compassion as much as they are skilled and competent. in the long run your success will depend LARGELY on your own persistence, NOT your school graduating more (or less?) board passers than others. having said that, i'm not saying that being in UP, isn't helping. on the contrary, you're better off than a lot more students! UP is a well-respected, premier university based on a more thorough and unbiased set of measures (by disinterested parties, too). to tag it "poor" because of the last board performance is plain misleading.

btw, i'm nrswnabee. from connecticut. twice your age and fighting.

you'll be alright, jenny. take it easy.

im francine hazel, 4th year nursing student of our lady of fatima university valenzuela. like you projenny, nursing is not my first course choice. in fact, it never occured to me that i will be taking nursing becuz my first course choice was education. i transfered from educ to nursing becuz my mom kept bugging me to take nursing instead. but now, im glad that i followed my mother's request becuz i am now enjoying this course. and now i am crossing my fingers and hoping and praying that i will graduate next year, pass the national board exams, take the nclex, and work as a full-pledge rn :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

Hi jenny. I studied Nutrition at UPLB but shifted to nursing after 3 years of staying at the University. Like you, i did not choose nursing. I wasnt performing really well at first. But after a few night duties with my classmates I was thankful I took up nursing. I enjoyed school very much. I graduated last year and I am now working in the biggest maternity hospital in the country. I hope you will enjoy nursing as much as I did.

Hi, everyone. I'm Justine, 18 years old, a 3rd year Nursing student at Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Calamba. Our Nursing program is new and I'm from the first batch so everything seems like a game of trial and error for both students and instructors here... But so far, I've been surviving with a grade average of 88-89%. I hope that's good enough to get me into a masteral program a few years from now. I plan to get into a CRNA program after getting a few years of experience at an ICU (preferably a CVICU). My classmates call me crazy for thinking way ahead (like 5 years from now), but hey, it's better to be ready for anything. :p

Nursing was my first choice, actually, and we have a couple of nurses in the family so I guess I can say I was influenced by them and their work. My mother used to work in a hemodialysis unit in Massachusetts, while my aunt is a LPN in California. My sister is also a Nursing student, but she's just in her first year. The other members of my family joke that we're about to be dominated by the nursing profession, as my little cousins say they want to be nurses too when they grow up. ;)

I joined this forum because I have quite a lot of questions regarding CRNA programs in the US... But I find this quite informative, it has a lot of tips on how to take the NCLEX and such.

Btw, does anyone have any idea if non-Filipino citizens can take the local board exam? I am an American citizen (my family and I migrated to the Philippines from the US around 10 years ago, and we're basically immigrants here), and I heard that non-Filipino citizens aren't allowed to take the local board. Is that true? If it is, that means I'll just fly back to the States right after graduation to take the NCLEX, then.

Hi Justine, yes, you cannot take the Philippine Nursing Board Exam if you're not a Filipino Citizen, but you can take the NCLEX instead.

Thank you. :)

That means I can't work here to gain experience before I leave... :(

Hi future nurses! I'm Marie, a 2nd year Nursing student at the Our Lady of Fatima University in Lagro. I'm a shifter from FEU and PNU where I took up Education. I've always seen myself being an English teacher but when my son left for the US, I had a change of heart. I never thought much about Nursing or nurses before but now I look up to them because this is not an easy course. I think I will enjoy being a nurse because reading from posts on this site really gives me inspiration. I can't wait to be a nurse in the US and join my entire family there. Goodluck to us Nursing students and God bless!

Marie
