Filipino nurses

Hello I am a new nurse going on my 3rd week at the facility I currently work in, Been here in the US for a long time but doing different career before. Went to a nursing school in texas and finally got a job at this very nice institution in TX. I want to connect to my fellow Filipino nurses I want some advices and got questions to ask!!! In which part of Texas do you work? Although I am not Filipino, several of my coworkers are Filipinas. I am located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas.

I'm an american born Filipino nurse working at a San Antonio hospital. I'm one of a dozen Filipino RNs in the entire hospital. The reputation of Filipino nurses will precede you even in Texas. I remember having a rough day during my new grad orientation and a nurse told me "if all else fails, at least you got the Filipino thing going for you...you have that automatic credibility as a Filipino nurse." I laughed so hard.

I work at Methodist. If you have a license and a pulse, you will get hired at Baptist or Methodist. Experience not needed. But they do work you like a slave and it is San Antonio. That is why they have a hard time retaining nurses.

I thought the methodist is the best hospital to retain nurses because they are nice to employees. Atleast, thats what most of my friends said. Anyways, probably, not all methodist. And also, their job postings also require 18 months US exp.

Just stay away from "low acuity" units like obgyn, med surg, orthopedics, etc. 6-7 patients per nurse is not uncommon on those units.

If you are coming from the Philippines then disregard everything I said about not having experience. I was referring to those who were educated here in the states. They may have more requirements for international nurses.

You may want to consider joining the Philippine Nurses Association. Philippine Nurses Association of America, Inc. I believe they have several chapters in Texas. It would be a great way to network.

I have been in the states a few years now and have started working as a nurse now after my break , ilive in Memphis , but me and my husband are thinking about moving to TX or florida , and want to know about any hospitals that will give me credit for my 10 years overseas exp in ICU if any one can name a few hops and cities that would be great, and yes I am from the Philippines
