Feeling sick to my stomach...

Published

This fall I will be starting school. I am a CNA already and I hope that will aide me futher along in my education. I'm excited but at the same time I so nervous!! I was never good at math and only average in science. I did do well in anatomy in highschool though. I took advanced placement classes. I was never an amazing student but I did do well and worked hard. I know nursing isn't easy and you really have to give it you're all.

So, will be a CNA help me? What classes did you find the most difficult? Did you feel prepared for NCLEX?

Also, if you aren't good in math classes and chemistry please share some study tips you picked up along the way. I failed chem in high school and barely passed it the second time. That is the one class I am most nervous about.

Thank you all! :)

Being a CNA will be helpful in the sense that you will know how to perform the "tasks" in nursing - giving a bed bath, changing, getting pts out of bed, etc. The other portion of nursing (critical thinking) will come with time as you learn throughout nursing school and on the job.

I was not very good at the sciences in high school (chem, bio) but managed to do very well at the college level. Just make sure to study every day and ask for help when you need it.

For math, I used Math for Meds by Curren - very helpful. Also do a search online for some dosage calculation math practice.

Good luck!

I agree with Curren's Math for Meds book. I was scared to death of the med admin class and ended up with an A. That book was awesome! Another I used was something like "Stressed about nursing drug math". But really all it is is a formula, and once you know it you can answer any math question. Best of luck to you

Thats what I worry about..Math! Never was good at it..

It's okay to never have been good at math before. But nursing math isn't like your math before, so you may end up great at it! Don't forget your students, going to be taught how to do something. They'll show you how to do it. All you need to put in is the effort and you'll be fine! Trust me, if I can do it, you can o it =)
