Published

I have just started studying for my first EC test:Health and Safety I bought the recomened Fundamentals of nursing book, using old LPN books..but this is a lot of material to read...What did everyone else use to study for these test? Any help in the right direction is appreciated...

I'm feeling the same way. Have you purchased the practice exam yet? I think you need to register for the exam before you can purchase it but I'm going to purchase it to give me and idea of what the actual exam might cover.

The best thing you can do to get a look at the exam is to get the practice exams. Will give you an idea of what to expect.

Try the study guide 101 notes, I forgot the website but they're only $10 and I think they give a good overview of the topics you need to study. You can dowload them once you pay or u can have it mailed to u as a disc. There are a lot of resources, the practice exams are very helpful as well, once you figure out ur own study style you'll gain more confidence

Did you download the study guide?

I went ahead and ordered the Studygroup101 CD's for all eight nursing exams...I hear alot of people on here have used those for their test and done really well...I will use them and the books i have and then when I get that done...I will do the practice exams that excelsior offers....Thanx for the advice guys...and good luck to the rest of you who are just starting out as well.

once you take your first test, you get a good idea of what the tests are like and its a little easier to prepare. or, at least that is how i felt. the practice test are good to help with that too.

i used studygroup 101 and the recommended textbooks.

Try this as well: RNBridgeProgram.com - LPN to RN Bridge Program | Parmedic to RN Bridge Program | I've used it for quite a few of my exams when reading just wasn't going to be an option if i wanted to move as fast as have been

I have been using the RN Bridge Program for my last exam and the one coming up. I have found I need it with reading to get a decent grade. If I had to go back and do it all over again I would have stuck to reading. It helps me move a bit faster but with the price increasing every day I think it's not worth all they are asking for it. If I could get the videos in another format so I can have them on my iphone I might but they aren't all that great. After the first test, even after a break, the tests seem easier and I get in the flow of testing. It gets easier after you take the first steps. (unless you spend hours on here so you don't have to study).

Thanx for the advice on this site...think i might have to add this to my study material.

Hey OSUFan, I took Health and Safety several weeks ago and passed with an A. I was really sweating this one because of the emphasis on Electrolyte imbalances and ABG's. I studied out of the Content Guide then found that other texts that were listed for reading assignments, but not particularly for a given subsection, had very good additional reading. Particularly the Med-Surg book then I checked my knowledge base using the appropriate section of the Saunders NCLEX Study Guide to show me my weak points. I also found two websites that really helped me with with ABG interpretation:

Welcome to Hansen Nursing

ABG Interpretation Quiz

I don't know if this strategy will be helpful for you but it worked for me. Always try to see if there is additional information in your other textbooks that may word a concept in a different manner that is easier for you to apply. I know how my mind works & I tend to be more of a visual learner.

Hope this helps....
