Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS)

Can anyone tell how the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) works in the VA Hospital system? And how much does the 401k plan match per dollar? How long do you have work in the sytsem before you become vested?

Hey 2,

The FERS system contributes 1% without any matching commitment from the employee. They will then match dollar for dollar up to the first 3% of what the employee contributes. (Please dont quote me on the rest). I believe that they will then match .5 for every dollar after that up to 4 or 5%. You must stay with the VA for 3 years to be fully vested.
