Fed Up!!! What should I do???

I have been trying to go nursing school forever and a day. I am just fed up with the community colleges in my area, long waiting list, never enought classes to get a spot, a 1000 prereqs you have to take in order to even apply to the nursing program. OH and when you do apply you are number 200 on the waiting list. So I applied to a private college here, no prereqs you just take the entrance exam (teas) and you are in. Well I passed!!! Problem is everyone has caught on to why this school is so popular. They told me they have a spot for me in the next class starting in two weeks. :) The class after this is in October, I just don't know if I can wait that long and there is no guarantee they said that the class will still be open. I started a new job at a hospital about two months ago, do you think my boss will be receptive to the fact that i am trying to better myself and be willing to change my work schedule. I guess i just need advice on how to approach her with this. Thanks!!!

Approach is everything. I would set up ask to speak with her in private and have a gameplan laid out. Explain to her that you a pursuing a career in nursing and start school soon. Have possible schedules already figured out. Show her what days the classes will be on and what times they will be held. Then work with her to discover which shifts are possible for you to work. You will probably have to be open to either working nights or working part time if your school is as demanding as mine. Hope this helps.

Remember that adjusting your schedule also means adjusting other peoples' schedules. So its not as easy as you may think. Give lots of notice as to what you want/need so she has time to try to accomadate you.

I know the feeling.

Just be patient, if you can't get in now, then you will in Oct.

At least its a definite, unlike applying and not knowing whether your in or not.

Good luck

Is this school accredited? I would check into that also. The above advice is good about approaching your employer with possible times/dates you will be in classes. If the school offers any online classes or hybrids I would jump on those. A friend of mine got fed up like you are with all the pre-req's for nursing and just started a 1 yr LPN class. When she starts working as an LPN she will take 1 or 2 classes at a time to get her BSN...this might be a way to go for you...less competitive and many classes are offered online. check out LPN to RN bridge programs and don't give up! Stay with it and you will be at your goal one day!
