I will be starting nursing school this fall. I can deal with a lot of nasty stuff and not get sick, even though it looks really grose. The only part I have a problem with is a little fear of IVs and drawing blood, since I have always heard it hurts. I have never had an IV or had my blood drawn and I have tried to watch it being done but I always get light headed and feel cold. The wierd thing is I don't fear shots, although I did like them when I was a kid. Does anyone think I can overcome this fear?

I used to have a big problem with the thoughts of giving others shots, because I still seem to have a fear of myself getting shots, even though I shouldn't by now - it's something that's always bothered me. I get so nervous and sweaty before a shot. Most likely it'll get easier and easier for you to do these procedures, you just gotta stay calm. I've been giving my grandma her Insulin shots, and honestly, the first time, I felt nauseous, but after it was done I was really relieved at how quick and easy the whole process was for me. After I injected and pulled the needle out, I made a few grossed out noises and squirmed a bit, but now it's all peachy! You can overcome any fear/nervousness you have to conquer your career, just stay calm and go with the flow. :)
