FCCJ Fall 2008

Published

Hello all! Just thought I'd start a thread for all of those folks that have submitted, or are getting ready to submit, their applications for FCCJ's Fall '08 term.

I will be submitting my application in a few weeks, when this Spring term ends. I have taken my NAT (twice), so I'm good to go there, but still need to get my CPR class done. I called several places & I'm waiting to hear back from them.

I look forward to chatting with & getting to know all of you, who will be doing the count-down with me... on getting our acceptance letters!!!

I know it helps to sound-board off each other & to lean on each other for support... especially with getting all the things done that we have to do!

Best of luck & success to all!!!

Does anyone know how strict they are about the shoes? Mine are white but have little silver metal things where the laces come out. I worry that they'll say it's too much.

Yes, just fax the form for the background check.

Specializes in Intensive Care Unit.

Congrats on the tuition coverage, Kodiakgirl!

I'm assuming brightfutures covers the tuition, and if so, I'm good to go.

Does worksource cover books and materials as well?

I don't know how strict they are about the shoes.. i heard absolutely no crocs.. which i was bummed about! we all wear them in the hospitals so i don't understand why we couldn't wear them for clinicals, but whatever! so i got some all white reebok classics.. they have a tiny bit of color on the reebok flag and if that matters then their crazy! i'm so ready for orientation... i just need to know what my scedule is.. does anyone know about how many days a week we'll be in class? and is anybody else still waiting for their file to be verified by financial aid, they told me it would take 10 days and it has taken like 3 weeks now.. and all it says it file not verified.. i called and they said just keep checking! when will it say under our degree audit program that we're admitted into the nursing program? mine still says no.. i guess maybe after orientation? well i hope all of you are enjoying your weekend.. i'm stuck at work all weekend long.. at least i'm already adjusted to these awful 12 hour shifts!

and one more thing.. i saw a few of you have picked up your skills kit.. what all comes in it?

Worksource covers tuition only. They used to cover pretty much everything but their funding has been cut so much. Bright Futures will cover tuition, either 57% or 100%. I had it when I went to FSU years ago. Wish there wasn't a time limit on that...

Yeah, it's strange we can't wear crocs. Wonder what the reason is?

Ok I'm a little dyslexic with numbers. I meant 75%!

Specializes in none.
there is a girl in my term with tatoos on her arm and wrist and she has to cover them with white long sleeved shirts...it's not biggie though

and as far as earrings they allow one stud....all of your hair has to be off of your shoulders....you can only wear one ring with no jewels in it...

the nurses and techs that actually work there don't have to follow the same rules...just lucky us:heartbeat good luck!

Yeah..I work at Wolfson's and the popular thing for everyone to wear there are Tarantino earrings and crocs (very few of us wear shoes). I almost always have my rings on me..so that will be very difficult. One of them is my grandmother's and I wear it, so she can be with me everywhere I go.

.....Yeah, it's strange we can't wear crocs. Wonder what the reason is?

The issue with Crocs are the holes in the top of the shoes and the strap on the back. The worry is that blood or bodily fluids can seep into the shoe holes, causing an infection control risk. Also, sharp objects could go through one of the holes. With the straps, if they aren't worn properly, your shoe can pop off.

They have Crocs work shoes without the holes on top, but they still have a strap on the back...

Just figured I'd let everyone know who is doing worksource that the case worker that took all my information this last week told me that they are now covering books as well. They just got the word a day or two before I went there so I'm sure most of you were informed about just getting tuition covered. She said they got some extra funding or money left over. She even said the people who already have it will get a refund or more money put into their account. Just thought I'd pass the information on!! Yay for us!!

Thanks so much for the info on Worksource! I have an appt Tues to talk about the funding for my case. I'm getting a crown put in so I'll be swollen and drooling but oh well. That'd be awesome if they covered books as well. I can understand the crocs with the holes...I was thinking of the medical types.
