FCCJ Fall 2008

Published

Hello all! Just thought I'd start a thread for all of those folks that have submitted, or are getting ready to submit, their applications for FCCJ's Fall '08 term.

I will be submitting my application in a few weeks, when this Spring term ends. I have taken my NAT (twice), so I'm good to go there, but still need to get my CPR class done. I called several places & I'm waiting to hear back from them.

I look forward to chatting with & getting to know all of you, who will be doing the count-down with me... on getting our acceptance letters!!!

I know it helps to sound-board off each other & to lean on each other for support... especially with getting all the things done that we have to do!

Best of luck & success to all!!!

The buzz is wearing off for me too. Now I'm just waiting. Really looking forward to orientation and getting started. I want to know the schedule so bad! It will be more concrete to me with a schedule. I guess I also have to get an id made. I thought the passport photos were for the id as well. Had I known, I wouldn't have bothered with lip gloss...

I really want to know the schedule too. I really need to be in the night program, but I guess I'll just have to get a second job on the weekends if it is only days. I really wish FCCJ was open on the weekends, I would never complain about working weekends!!

Well, funny story about the passport photo: The lady told me I couldn't wear earrings. I told her that I couldn't take mine out and she didn't believe me. I had to show her that the only way they come out is to either destroy them or to rip my ear open, lol.

Ok here's the deal with the ID. You need it for clinicals. It's considered part of your uniform. It's so hospital staff can identify you. You will need to get a little plastic holder for it because you also have to carry your CPR card with you at all times. I just stick both in the little plastic holder and put my lunch money in between the two. You don't know this yet but you can't bring your purse or anything to clinicals with you. You have to carry everything on you.

And to the person who said she can't take her earrings out...... I hope they are studs because we are not allowed to wear more than one pair of earrings and they have to be studs. No hoops or dangly ones or anything. The only other jewelry we are allowed to wear is a plain wedding band. And if you have a visible tattoo you have to cover it up. It's all in the handbook you got with your packet. And they will go over it in orientation.

Where can we get the holder for the id and CPR card?

I had mine from my previous job where I had to have an ID. Otherwise I think they have some in the bookstore at North campus. If they don't you can get them in packs of 20 or so at Office Depot. I think the whole pack might be $5. I would get a bunch of people together and contribute 50 cents each or something and just buy a pack and everyone can have one.

I will have to have them destroyed to take them out if they insist, but I didn't get any sort of handbook in my packet. I'm starting to think there are several things I didn't get in my packet, or maybe things they'll give us at orientation instead. I have a tattoo that my hair will cover, but I didn't figure we could leave our hair down. I guess I will be buying a bunch of big band-aids for it, lol.

I feel like a dummy for getting "tatted up" when I was 18. I will probably have to wear a long sleeved shirt under my scrubs.

Don't feet bad Tsayuga, I don't think any of us got handbooks.

Yup, no handbook here either. I can see the rule about dangly earrings, though. Are your earring small hoops (like the kind that hug the earlobe?) Maybe they'll be ok. Is it just for clinicals? I see nurses all the time with small bracelets, necklaces, etc. I guess it just depends on the nature of the work? Oh, someone mentioned getting their skills kit. So they're in? My last thing to get.

So check this out...

I just got back from my 5 week vacation from the Philippines, and I found out I needed all of these things done by the 31st.

Mom called me about my acceptance, but didn't tell me I needed all of these things done by next Thursday. I looked over it, and it looks overwhelming.

So needless to say, I'm stressed. =(

there is a girl in my term with tatoos on her arm and wrist and she has to cover them with white long sleeved shirts...it's not biggie though

and as far as earrings they allow one stud....all of your hair has to be off of your shoulders....you can only wear one ring with no jewels in it...

the nurses and techs that actually work there don't have to follow the same rules...just lucky us:heartbeat good luck!

My earrings are small, most of the time I forget they are there. I've had them in for over ten years, lol. My tat is right on my neck, I'm sure that looking like I have a massive wound on my neck would be preferable to artwork. When I had the guy do it (I was 19), I told him that I wanted it to be covered by my hair, but my hair just barely covers it.

BSILVA - you can do it, just do the medical appointment first. If you have the whole day to dedicate to it, it is totally doable in a few days. Oh, and you can start the background check online now and get an appointment for the fingerprinting online too. And CVS/Walgreens should be able to do the photo over the weekend. My stuff only took me a week, and I only had time in the morning mon-weds. Most of it is online, it is just getting the medical stuff started now that is important.

Thank you guys! I'm not worried about the earrings or the tattoo. I don't want to cover them up or take them out, but I'm grown up enough by now to just do what I am told to.

Thanks Tsayuga.

I still have to pick up that form from North Campus, right?

It's ridiculous that they have us drive up there. Why wont they just send it with the packet?!?!

And do I still Fax that form to the certifiedbackgrounds thing?

I asked why they can't fax the form and they said you need to sign for it. Not sure why but that's the reason.

I hear all the time how different nursing school is from actual nursing. Jewelry included, I guess. Trying to enjoy my time with my little ones. Can't wait to get started, though. Worksource approved me - tuition covered. Yea!
