Hello all! Just thought I'd start a thread for all of those folks that have submitted, or are getting ready to submit, their applications for FCCJ's Fall '08 term.
I will be submitting my application in a few weeks, when this Spring term ends. I have taken my NAT (twice), so I'm good to go there, but still need to get my CPR class done. I called several places & I'm waiting to hear back from them.
I look forward to chatting with & getting to know all of you, who will be doing the count-down with me... on getting our acceptance letters!!!
I know it helps to sound-board off each other & to lean on each other for support... especially with getting all the things done that we have to do!
Best of luck & success to all!!!
Now, here is the caveat to all of this-we now have an interim Director of Nursing. There is no telling how many changes she will implement right off the bat. I know Pharm is going hybrid and concepts is a hybrid class (my group screamed the loudest about the concepts class being online). Assessment will never be online, too much hands on needed.
Let me know if you have other questions.
Don't forget to mention that if you do miss a clinical day you have to submit a signed statement that includes why you missed and any documentation regarding your circumstance. And if you're late you have to submit a signed statement as to why and what time you arrived. Both of the above go into your permanent record.
And in regards to the classes.... I have Pharm online now and I wish it was hybrid so next semester is lucky. I have concepts hybrid right now .. jury's still out on that one. We didn't even know the class was hybrid till the first day of class and the schedule has changed at least 4 times. The prof is great but because we don't see her that much we have too much to do on the days we do see her and when it came time to do care plans... oh my god... it was mayhem. We were all so confused. Thank god our techniques prof talks to our concepts prof or we'd still be lost. I can see that it's doable online but it needs to be more organized. My techniques prof says she's taking the class over next term and she's great about organization stuff and giving very clear directions so it should be better.
LADIES IM IN plz fill me in on all the things I gotta do and where to do go thanx everyone!!!
YEAH! How did you find out? I'm thrilled for you! You can easily get all of your stuff done in a couple of days. I would definetly go the Northside Medical Clinic tomorrow, if you can, and if you got your packet cuz you need certain forms. But, you can get it done, no problem... but it is gonna cost ya... unfortunately.
Question!!
I went to my OB, they gave me my labs from the pregnancy...
Rubella = positive
Hep B = non-reactive
Varicella = (not listed)
Okay...help me here. What the heck does non-reactive mean? That means I'm NOT positive right? I know that I've had chicken pox before so my Varicella should be positive but it wasn't tested. So, can I just sign the declination form and not submit the positive titer lab? I plan to still start the Hep B series...but not before the 31st. Then I guess I would just need to get the varicella titer right?
OK. What a day! I went to turn in my papers to north campus today and I was babysitting a 3 year old today also so she came with me. So, I was a little embarrassed as she was touching everything in the office where you turn stuff in and closing the doors that were supposed to be kept open and trying to feed the fish on the counter. I'm not used to having a child everyday so I hope this was somewhat normal although the lady at the counter seemed quite annoyed. Anyways as I got back in my car it wouldn't start. Someone in the parking lot tried to jump it and that did not work. So I had to call a tow truck. I was running around north campus with a three year old waiting for 2 hours for my husband to pick us up. He has a two seat sports car so he had to go pick up his moms car for the car seat to fit. Poor little girl was so bored. Then I live about 45 min away so I got my car towed to a auto mechanic on dunn ave instead of near my house. It was cheaper to do that and I forgot to leave my key. So looks like I'll be back at the Northside tomorrow to drop off my key to the mechanic. I am sure this is going to be a huge expense on top of everything else we are spening on nursing school stuff. I am exhasted! If you were at north campus today I was the one in the white jeep sweating to death and trying to start my dumb car over and over again. I just had to vent. Thanks for listening. :trout:

The school will not take positive or negative they want numbers. At least that is what the woman who has been working with me told me. She works at NAS Jax in immunizations but just graduated from the program in May. If you know you have had chicken pox then you should be fine and I was told to fight getting the shot since it can make you sick if you have had chicken pox. My titers came back less then 0.9, but I have had chicken pox twice and shingles. Go fig.

omg!!! Sorry to hear that. These type things always seem to happen when you have goals set. I'm speaking from experience. I was dealing with a car issue earlier this week...not the same type...but one that cost a good bit of money.
The dealer sold my husband a car while his license was suspended. So 8 months later when we tried to renew the tag they told us he had to pay the suspension. So after riding around for a month with an expired tag + $300 + $60 we finally got the tag. But that made the JEA check bounce. So now they've added a $400 deposit making my light bill a whopping $780 (July 2008). So right now we are looking crazy because they only payment arrangements they will make is pay half now and half over the next 6 months. But then that will add like 70 dollars a month to the bills....AHHHHHHH.

That sucks, hope your weekend gets better. Oh and as a mom to four people with annoyed looks just get one right back from me. lol Plus that lady was acting annoyed with me and my friend (when we had NO kids), we asked her for a physical form since my friend had forgotten it at home and we were going straight to the clinic. She seriously looked at us and said I don't have those and until we pressed her about that it came in the packet from THAT office then she was like oh wait a minute. Then finally had to go make copies, but seriously acted like it was awful that we asked her to work for 2 minutes.

In Term 1, you will have 4 classes-Concepts, Assessment, Pharmacology and Techniques. The Techniques class is the clinical. The first 8 weeks of techniques is learning in the lab (still a 7-3 class) and then the 2nd 8 weeks is when you are out in the hospital, the "clinical setting". You can only miss 2 clinical (hospital) days.
For Term 2 Adult Health (the class is split with Psych), you go into clinical immediately at the start of the semester. For Psych, it will be dependent on your instructor and what facility you'll be out (psych facilities are limited).
