I have an old filac oral thermometer in my office that is dying so I need to purchase a new one. The new oral thermometers are so fast I'm thinking I'll go wtih that. Anyone have something different or a specific one they recommend?

i have gone back and forth over the years and have finally settled on the braun tympanic. it's just as accurate and now that i'm working with the little guys again that get absolutely gobsmacked arounds oral thermometry, my days of getting a saliva covered probe shot back at me or my desk by a kid that doesn't listen when i tell them to hold it in place are gone.
i am a bit intrigued by the non contact - but they were like 50 or 60 bucks and i couldn't justify it in this year's budget.

I really like my Welch Allyn tympanic. Well, actually it says Braun on it, too. It works really well for me.

Me too....I also have the temporal scanner, but I don't really like it...it reads on the higher side and I feel the tympanic is more accurate. I do use the temporal on the younger, special ed kids to don't like their ears messed with. mc3

I have a Braun ear thermometer, and while I like it for the bigger kids and for adults, it is too big for the little ones. I often get low readings when their ear canal is too small for me to really get in and aim at their ear drum.
I have had some kids tell me the last nurse had "a forehead scanner" and that they really liked it!

I have an infrared temporal artery one that I like. I do feel like it consistently reads low, but I LOVE that it's no contact and I can almost-instantly go from one kid to another:
