Hi, this is my first time post.
I am from Michigan and I am applying to FAMU for the fall 2010. I need more information about really how financial aid works(from current students). Also I want to know is their an people from out of state that is going there now and what was your experience with the application process. Also for those who do not mind sharing what was your GPA. I just need an overview, because I am really nervous about applying (especially when I heard that you do not know if you are accept until about 2 weeks {please tell me that is an exaggeration})
Please Help!!!!!!

I have friends who attended FAMU. It is a very tough school, especially the nursing college. The financial aid part of it is good but the nursing college is very competitive and some of the instructors can be very mean.

I attended FAMU but I was not in the Nursing Program but I have several friends who were. If you are out of state of course it is going to be expensive, you can find that information the website as to how much out of state tuition is. When I went there a while ago for in state tuition it was like $98/crdt so normally out of state can be like 4-5x's that. My friend graduated Fall 2009 from the program. She was informed a week before classes started that she was in the program. Which is not uncommon for a lot of nursing programs, you have to understand people get in, then decline there seat because they get into the school that they really want to get into (FSU, USF, UF, or UNF). The previous poster was correct some of the professors can be mean, however that should not deter you from doing the best you can, FAMU teachers do have their favorites ( I have experienced that) but it is all what YOU make it. My friend also advised me that some people were being called the night before classes started for the Fall Semester asking them did they want a seat. Also you have to have like $400 dollars before classes start so that you can get your things ( uniforms, nursing pens, and etc. all the good stuff I guess ). When I went to FAMU the nursing advisors were totally different than who they are now. So if I was you I would do the most research I can. Go to www.famu.edu (do a search for nursing program), call the advisors (they may give you the run around, which they are good for )but be a pain the the booty until someone gives you the answer you like. From experience you have to be FIRM with these people. I know that I am not a lot of help but good luck, I am applying for FSCJ (Jacksonville) for the FALL, if I don't get in Tally-ho here I come.:hpygrp:
Oh another note also, FAMU doesn't have a set number of applicants that they accept into the program. What happens is the amount of students that graduate from the previous class is the amount that they accept for the incoming class. So they had graduation 5/1, if 45 students graduated then they will accept 45 students in the incoming class. I personally don't like that but it's not my decision. I think you should have a set number 100 each semester.

Hey, Im about to start my 2nd semester at FAMU's School of Nursing. My GPA was an 3.234 and application process was long so start early, there is only 50 seats offered in both spring and fall so it is competitive to get in when there is hundreds of applicants. But tuition is three times more that in state so its about 307 a credit hour so if one class is 3 credits for one class it will be about 921$. GOOD LUCK...the hardest part is not getting in but staying in.
Hello, I am so nervous about if I get accepted actually going. Like I posted before I am coming from Detroit, and I have never been to Florida. my biggest issue is that FAMU does not have any more on campus housing for fall 2010:mad: so that means in a week I have to pack my life, register for classes and find an apartment. I am really just venting and worried . But if anybody have any advice or any suggestions about housing nice safe areas fl (I am going to have a car, so distance is not a problem) please let me know as soon as possible.
Thank You
I got in! :yeah::yeah:
Did anybody else!!!
Let me know
That is awesome that you got in. Congrats. If you don't mind me asking what was your GPA. And did they give you any information as to how many applicats applied to the program. When does school start.
Oh something else, I stayed on Appalachee Parkway in a studio apt (i can't remember the name of the apts) but it was right up the street from wal mart. There is nice collegiate housing on High Rd. I don't know if you lookin for a roommate. I didn't like the roommate deal when I did do collegite housing. At the time I state in The Exchange (its called something else now) and it was on Sharer Rd. It was nice. My friends stayed in Campus Lodge (called something else now) Those were nice. Also, there is one called the Boardwalk (maybe called something else now) but those were really really nice. Just look at like Rent.com and Mynewplace.com and read reviews on the apt. Trust you will find something and make the best out of it.

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this website and I'm so glad there's a place where I can go for help. I too applied for Fall 2010 entry into FAMU's Nursing program and I still haven't heard anything. I called up there this morning (Friday Aug. 13th) and the man I spoke to said that I should get a letter today, but would not tell me whether or not I was accepted. Congrats to "apotter82389" I saw your post that you were accepted. How did they contact you? What did they tell you? Can you please share with us? I'm so anxious, I just want to know did I get in.
Thank you,

Hey guys! I'm also applying for fall 2010. I'm really nervous about moving to a new area but I've applied at ucf (where I'm a student), fsu, and unf nursing schools and already got my rejection letters which is so discouraging. My overall gpa is a 3.56 with a prereq gpa of 3.77. Honestly, I'm just scared of being rejected once again lol it sucks. Ok, now this question might be silly but I know that famu is a historically African American school which obviously is predominately black...I'm white lol do you think I have a chance? And yes, I am being serious lol. I really don't care if I'm the only white girl in my class lol I'm just curious if anyone knows. Thanks guys :)
