I am in my final semester of NSG school; this semester is very disorganized, the professors are horrible & 2/3 of the class is failing, INCLUDING ME : (
We have 6 exams have just finished our 3rd & I have a 69.45% average for the class & we need a 74.5% to pass.
My attitude is that even though 2/3 of the class is failing ... 1/3 is passing. I have been studying all the time, working as hard as I can & still can't make decent grades on the test.
Do you think I should drop out? If I fail this semester my GPA will take a 9.0 credit hit from this. Do you think I can recover from my low average? Please give me your honest feedback. Thank you

talk 2 your asap!!! u need 2 find out what u r missing on exams, it is probably small details, in which u would need to read the entire chapter, and not just read, actually study the entire chapter. i would make out index cards and study key points whenever and however to avoid dropping the class. it is doable and stressful becuz now these last exams, you'll have to almost basically gets A's on them. but like i said talk 2 your instructor b 4 dropping, hopefully they'll have some sound advice.

Just a little tough love from someone who has been in your shoes. There have to be reasons why you are not passing your exams and it's not the professors' fault, so stop blaming them. No more blame game from here on out. I had a professor tell me that if I didn't pass my second peds exam that she was going to kick my orifice. She was tough as nails but you know what, I passed.
How did you do on the first two tests? Are you over-studying? Are you reading to much into the question? Are you second-guessing yourself and changing your answers? You need to meet with your professors to see what areas you are lacking in. Do this as soon as possible. I wouldn't recommend throwing the towel in yet. See if you can look over the tests with your professors. Currently, what are you studying this semester i.e. med/surg or maternity?

i think you still have a chance to pass this class. you still have 3 more exams left, and one good grade will bring up your average. failing a class and dropping out are the same thing you have to come back next year to retake this class. dont give up yet. study hard for the next 3 exams and see what happens. you are just too close to the end to give up now. its not over until its really over!!!!
I also think that sometimes when you study for extended periods of time, you don't retain as much. I found it better to read for 30 minutes then take a 15 minute break. It worked for me. Sometimes you need to put the books down other than when you are sleeping, which is important by the way. You don't need to spend every waking moment studying. You need to have time for you.

this is very do able, you still have 3 exams to bring it up to that 74.5% avg. at my school we only had 4 exams and alot of people were at the same avg as you and was able to pull thier avg up to pass the class. so stay strong and be determine/positive that you gonna do it.

Im just starting my second year so I'm not how much help I can be but I am also a tutor for the previous quarter. Have you tried a tutor? I know being 6th quarter at a 6quarter program can make this hard but you never know. Talk to your instructors too. It always helps and maybe they will allow you to do a test review sessions with some students who are doing good. Get with students who are doing well and ask them what they are doing. Study groups. Hope this helps. i have help students in the quarter behind me recover from far worse averages (my last student came from 2 40% tests to finishing the class in the 80% range) so I know its do able. Also, don't withdrawal. I don't know how it works at your school but we only repeat what we fail. Finish the class out, see what happens and then when you repeat it, you will have a head start on what the tests are like. But don't even think about failing right now. Relax, like Michigan Rn said, and start putting together a plan to get back on track. I have found that when I relax the night before tests instead of cramming, my grades jump 10%. Good luck.

If your working-cut back as much as you can. If your socializing with friends. STOP, If you cant miss an episode of Desperate Housewives, un plug your TV.
You are in the final stretch. You say your studying as hard as you can? Study harder. Rewrite your notes, make flow charts, make flash cards, join a study group. Get a tutor. Stay late at clinicals and come in early. Do what needs to be done to complete this last bit of school.
Other people have been in your shoes. Your not alone. Good luck.

You didn't say what class you are failing, but if it's Med-Surg, I found the CD's "Med Surg Made Incredibly Easy" very helpful when I went thru school. They have a question and answer format for every area of Med-Surg. It's another way to study and get material to sink in. I also typed notes during class directly on my computer and made question and answer Power Point slide shows based on the material from my notes and from my textbooks. I also had very poor teachers in nursing school and did a lot of self-teaching. Hang in there and good luck to you!
Thank you all for your support!
The last semester is PEDS/OB ... I really appreciate you all encouraging me to keep going until the end. I will study harder, try harder, do more.
Please send good thoughts/prayers my way!

Peds and OB was my hardest semester.
My suggestions: Pray to Jesus a lot!
Get some smart nursing friends to study with. I am a loner when it comes to studying, but I was not making it in this class, so I got some ppl together and we studied together and by doing that along with studying every waking moment and praying in between....I made it and I am proof that you can make it too :) I just said a prayer for you....
