FAILED NURSING SCHOOL... TWICE

Published

Okay so I am coming to this for some ADVICE, i had been at a nursing program (ADN) and unfortunately failed twice. The first time i failed by 1 point in my second semester. I got re-admitted and passed my first semester with a B. And went in my second semester doing GREAT and April came around I had personal problems (family problems) back home that i just couldn’t come back to school and that caused me to FAIL. I am so lost because i know i can answer the questions and prior to the family problems i had one A and one B in the med surg classes. But since I couldn’t come back to take the test and finals they had no other choice but to fail me. Since that was my second attempt i cant go back. Please if anyone has any advice or suggestions please help me.

Why didn’t you petition for a leave of absence? Schools usually provide for a leave of absence for up to one academic year with good reason. At worst, the nursing program could have told you that you would return in a “space available” basis. That’s how it usually works.

I asked and they said that if i didnt come back and take the test there really wasn’t much they can do. But since it was my second attempt they cant allow me to come back. But the personal issues were too great that I couldn’t return back when they had asked me to.

I relate and I just wrote a post about my experience. You're not alone.

Hello! My suggestion to you would be to go and apply at a different school. Transfer all your classes and reapply. I did this while in a LVN program. I too had family issues and a death in the family which caused me to fail out of Pharm in the First Semester. When I was allowed to come back, I too failed Med Surge and lost my spot. In this program, you have to be one year removed before reapplying. I instead looked up other colleges and did some research. I found two different schools that were currently taking apps for the Fall, so I applied to both after transferring to the Colleges. I was accepted to one and Rocked it straight through with A’s!!! This time around I was ready, experienced and better prepared for Nursing School. I am now in transition to RN. It took me a Little longer but I wanted to do this more than anything!!! So let me just say, if you want to be a Nurse, you will be one. It doesn’t matter how you get there or how long it takes, you only have to get to the Finish Line!! So go ahead girl!! Go Reapply and Finish Strong!!

Here is the thing.  When you are working you can't have med errors and then say you have "personal problems". If you hurt a patient you will probably be sued.  So there are reasons nursing schools have standards.  If you communicated the situation and they said it doesn't matter then so be it.  You will have docs you disagree with. Head nurses you don't like. The key is learning how to be successful whatever the situation.  We all have "personal problems".  If you cannot manage them then maybe find a career that you are able to manage both.  Hospitals and nursing boards primary concern is liability.  When being sued no one cares if someone was "tired" or had "problems".
