Unfortunately, I failed the nclex- rn my first time around. I didn't just fail .. I bombed the exam at 76 questions. There's no doubt in my mind that the way I studied did not work for me. The only book I used was Saunders 4th edition. I completed the book from front to back and reviewed using the method detailed in the intro of the book.
That didn't work.
Could you please tell me what you used to pass or what you find successful?
Does anyone recommend me taking a kaplan course? What books should I try studying from my second time around? Are there any helpful on-line programs?
I was so discouraged at first but now I'm determined to pass the second time.
PLEASE PLEASE help give me some pointers!
Thanks everyone and I'll continue praying for those of you who are still preparing for the exam and praise God for all who have passed!

Hey sorry to head you failed the first time! I used Kaplan and while I dont use how they say to pick the answers( didnt work well for me but others love it) their questions were very much like the NCLEX. I also used saunders and I have to say I hated it!!! I felt like it was nothing like what the NCLEX was (imo)Do as many questions as you can and study your weak areas and keep your head up!

hi~
[color=#2f4f4f]i am sorry to hear that you didn't pass your exam. i actually think the saunders review book is excellent. imo, i would still study from the book, but just approach your studying in a different method. take a break, for a week or however long you need. when you start to prepare again, stay positive and focus on the questions. the key is to really read the question properly to figure out exactly what the question is asking. also, when you practice questions, read and re-read the rationales to the questions you get wrong and right, not just to the questions you get wrong. once you start doing questions, and reading the rationales, you start focusing on content and critical thinking just comes to your mind each time you read a question. stay focused, try not to memorize lab values or facts, but learn them as you study your content, not just learning test taking strategies.
[color=#2f4f4f]hope you find this helpful.
[color=#2f4f4f]good luck to you!

Thank you for your advice and words of encouragement!
We are all capable of beating this monster with God's help and guidance.
Lord, give me the strength and motivation to study harder this time around! :)

I used Drexel DVDs and Lippincotts NCLEX Reveiw book. But 95% of my studying was on the Random Facts Thread. I would get out my class notes and look for something that might be on NCLEX or just something intresting, then I would double check my facts with my med-surg book and post it. It really helped to go through all those steps. Made it really stick in my mind.
I hear alot of wonderful things regarding doing Suzanne's Plan. :redpinkhe
Good Luck!

nclex 3500 and lippincott's review for the nclex by billings. Those were the two i used in school. saunders is good for peds, reviews and raionales for maternity and medsurge and made incredibly easy for psych if you need to review content.
Don't be discouraged.

I also recently failed a couple of months ago.. and now about to take my 2nd exam..
Now i'm planning to use suzanne's plan .. almost everyone here testified that it works..
Just keep on praying and accept God's plans for you .. maybe that's why we're hurting so much after failure because it was OUR plan to pass and yet He knows that there's a right time for it.. Pray that you'd be able to open your eyes and see what He has in stored for you.. and then.. start all over again with those thick books! hehehe
Never give up! We need to prove that we can do it! Go go go!

Thank you for those words. You are definitely right. I know God has a plan for me and although I failed, I know He has a direction set forward for me.
My prayers are with you as you test a second time.
You can do this!! You can overcome this monster of an exam!
Thanks again :)
By the way, I'd love to hear how you do.
How are you studying differently this time around?

be positive and just review your levels and common drugs. you will get it. i had to take it twice. first time was 265 questions and second time it was 128 and shut off. i used allnurses.com and searched for test tips and common levels and drugs. i honestly think that's why i passed and you will too:)
