Failed the NCLEX-RN exam on the first time

Published

Hello!

I recently just took the NCLEX-RN exam and received 265 questions to just find out that I unfortunately failed. It has been a tough few days finding out the news both disappointing and frustrating. I am writing today to get back any feedback on better study tips to prepare for the exam the next time. Also, just an advice whether or not you passed or have failed would be greatly appreciated. I just hope to tackle this exam one more time and come out victorious! Thanks again!

Hi there,

I have heard a lot of great things about the Hurst review, you can google it. It is kind of expensive, but they guarantee passing, and that may be worth its weight. There are a couple of other postings on this website about people failing who have taken the hurst review. They tell you the ORDER in which to study things, instead of just giving you a great long list of topics and leaving you to fend for yourself. I have NOT done it myself, but it might be worth a shot. I will link to the other article I read on here about it if I can find it.

Best of luck.

Here, I found it. This guy's article seemed really helpful. He took the NCLEX-RN three times, and passed on the third time after taking the Hurst review.

Hello!

i failed nclex the first time. i know how you feel at this moment. Just absorb it, its okto cry, get angry for a day or two coz it helps to release emotions. Then move on.. step back and REFOCUS!.... DO NOT GIVE UP. DO NOT LOSE HOPE. HAVE FAITH. YOU CAN DOI IT!!!!

I conquered nclex and passed it on my second time.

Thank you everyone for the advice and encouraging words, I really do appreciate it!!

I was in the same boat as you back in October. I was given all 265 questions and failed. Some say to take a day to a week to recover but I ended up taking November and half of December off because holidays and depression hit me HARD.

A classmate of mine took Kaplan and recommended it to me. I figured I had the content down but not the critical thinking and how to tackle questions. If that is your problem as well, I would recommend taking Kaplan anywhere class. They have discounts and I paid $425 for it. You can attend one of their free event to see if you like it or not. They also have money back if you fail again like HURST does. You can do what my classmate did and split the cost with someone else.

I would say recover and figure out what you feel is your weakness (content or critical thinking).

I took it again at the end of January and passed. Now I'm an unemployed nurse haha

Thank you!! Yeah, i think I need more of the critical thinking and tackling how to answer the questions. I did sign up for a few free Kaplan events so hopefully I will receive some insight through that. Thanks again!

Well, the good news with 265 questions is that you were on the fence for a long time, but unfortunately landed on the 'fail' side of the fence in the end.

Take a look at your CPR to see where you need to focus for next time.

Appreciate it, thanks!

Cheerup BuckeyeGirl! It happens, but I'm confident you'll do well the next time! You were right on the fence. Use that CRP to see where your weak areas were.

I passed on my first try last year. Here is the thread I made about what I studied: https://allnurses.com/nclex-discussion-forum/passed-nclex-rn-949861.html#post8139644

Hope this helps some!

Thank you so much for the post and the link!!
