HI all, new to the site. I just took my nc 1 exam and I failed it, made D. And the truth is I'm a really good student. Although I did try to go thru it probably too quickly, any advice, maybe EC is not for me, do I need typical university, or should I just suck it up and try agai? maybe try and study for NC 2? Anyone start off kinda rough and eventually get into gear on the 2nd try? Thanks!

It does take a while to get a feel for when you're prepared for the NC exams and when you're not. Did you purchase the practice exams? That really helped me to know what to expect on the real deal.
Don't give up! One low grade doesn't mean you should bail from the program. Best of luck! Feel free to PM or email me any time you feel the frustration mounting. One day you'll be glad you put in all this work.

Hey don't let a D get you down for too long, now you know what to expect. My first ever college class was sociology 13 years ago and I got a D. My (hopefully) last ever college class taken via Exam through Excelsior was also sociology and I got an A.
I echo Eric above, totally recommnd the $75 practice exams. Used them for each of the Nursing Concepts exams. They are a very good guage to assess your learning. You can email or PM me too is you want. You can do this!

I'm glad I read this tread. I'm nervous about taking the NC1. I was going to skip the practice exam and save $75.00 but after reading your tread, I better take the practice exam. Was there drug calculation question aprmayjunegirl?
thank you, thank you, thank you for the support and encouragement. i think i got too ambition and relied more on notes i'd bought, then reading more thru the text books. i've now bought older editions of the books off amazon.com and realized that i'm gonna have to dig deeper, and make sure i really know my stuff. i'm gonna try the practice exams. also guerda math wasnt the worst, it was only coulple IV conversions, it was knowing the nursing process well, that got me, i kept thinking hey i'm a nurse i know this stuff how hard can it be. also guerda if u need a buddy to go thru this with u i'd be happy too, i could use some more good friends. ty again eric and antinurse.

i hate to show my shortcomings but i haven't heard of the $75.00 practice exams. what am i missing? are they only for then NC classes? i'm still on my prereq's for EC
antinurse! Awe man! Shoulda picked a better name. :smackingf Well, the practice exams are through excelsior and they have them for a couple of pre-reqs I think, but not micro and sociolgy like I wanted. Oh well, I did OKay without them on those ones. BUT they do have them for each of the NC exams. You can find out on myEC.
One thing to note, I didn't use any outside notes, or take any notes for that matter but I also bought used older versions of the 2 main recommeded texts (Foundations and Med-Surg) and that's all I used along with the study guide to search for stuff related to the test and also look of stuff I didn't know about from the practice exams. The reading assignments in the COurse Content Guide (outline) thing from Excelsior did not match up with the older version of the texts as far as chapter, page etc. One thing to keep in mind. The Web CT vista format for the practice exams is a little weird and old fashioned to get used to when you want to go back and review your answers. Just click everywhere until you get a feel... I'd start out by just trying one of the practice tests to see if it helps you. Everyone learns differently.

I second and third the above recommendations to purchase the EC practice exams for the NC courses and some of the other required courses. For $75 you get 2 exams with 100 questions each, and best of all, the rationale for the correct and incorrect answers. I made notes from the practice questions and rationales and it really helped. The practice exams weren't available when I started EC, but I did purchase 5, 6, and 7, plus A&P. Believe me, it is money wells spent. There are various EC groups in Yahoo with files for most NC exams as well as A&P, etc. The files include SETH tests, NC notes, 100 things to know (basic things you should know for each NC exam) They are all good review material. Plus, you can be sure to get tons of help here! Oh, and study guides from various companies are available on eBay. They give a more directed approach to learning if you are finding it hard to study with just the course outline and text books. The study guides I purchased were a great help. Good luck!

For $75 you get two forms (A & B) of the practice exam for one Nursing Concepts exam of your choice. There are 100 questions each practice test. They're online and you can review your answers as many times as you want for 3 months. You cannot print or 'print screen" them. When you pay online, you can access it and take Form A immediately.

$75.00 per exam. They now have available Micro, A&P, and of course the NC exams. I recently went through the practice exam for NC 1. The rationales our very informative. I noticed that some of the questions were similar in the 2nd practice test, but the rationales from the first test explain the answers. Am scheduled for NC1 this Wed. Not sure if I studied enough, but it's too late to turn back now.
Don't give up. You will still have to take tests at the University.
