I obtained a B.S. in psychology in 2005 but my GPA is extremely low. (2.09) I was young, dumb and goofed off a lot in school. I have started my pre-requistes for Nursing and I am doing extremely well. I have made an A in Developmental Psych and A&P 1. I will be taking nutrition as well as A&P 2 next semester. Even if i got an A in all my classes I would only bring my GPA up to a 2.3. Could I still apply to a program or will my stupidity from when i was younger haunt me for a long time? There are TWO nursing programs where we will be moving to in the panhandle of FL so my choices are VERY limited there.
thank you for you help with this

Don't the nursing programs base admittance on the GPA of only the classes needed for admittance?
It says cumulative GPA for both the ASN and BSN programs

I'm not sure - my school only requires a 3.0 in the "required" pre-r classes.

2nd degree BSN programs will look at your previous degree gap and that gap won't cut it for those. Other programs may be more forgiving. I'd actually try talking to the schools themselves.

I am facing the same issues.. My GPA is a 2.7... I can retake one class which will bring me up to a 2.8. I have my bachelor's degree in bio but it does not state that on my transcripts. I am going to begin taking the rest of the prereq but even with all A's my gpa will only be about a 2.979 to be exact... The college I plan to attend will give me extra points for having a degree but how many???? Am I wasting my time or should I just get my LPN and work then take these prereq. and transition into the rn program???

Where are you moving to in FL? I currently live in the panhandle and am applying to GCC. They require a 2.5 and NWFSC requires a 2.5 i think as well. It depends on how many classes you have taken. the less the better in terms of getting your gpa up. http://www.clarion.edu/84631/ this website will help you figure out how many extra hours you need to take to get your GPA up to at least a 2.5 take easy classes that you know you can make an A in... gym class or painting..
Fsuandrea-- we're moving to Ft Walton Beach or Navarre. I was looking at NWFSC. What is GCC??
thanks for the website. i'll look at it. I don't know if they let you retake classes or not and if that would help.
I grew up in Niceville and NWFSC is one mile from my house. I chose not to apply to NWFSC because they are not accredited.. but they do only take classes from the last 5 years... so if you took classes older than that they will not be counted. scoring high on the HESI is a big thing too. They go on a point system and have the scale listed on their website. Other than not being accredited I heard they are a good program.

I didn't even notice the accreditation part. Thanks for the red flag! ARe there any other nursing programs around there besides UWF?
This is what the website said as far as accreditation:
Northwest Florida State College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate and associate degrees, certificates and diplomas. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404-679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of Northwest Florida State College.
unfortunately, no. I am banking on getting into GCC if I don't get in I'm going to take the EMT class with NWFSC in jan just to gain a little experience and wait for the fall class to start. I find out in a month! So I've been sweating a little about getting in. GPA is only 2.81 but I scored above a 90 on my HESI and have a BA so time will only tell! Have you visited the area yet? Navarre is cheaper to live but its also away from any civilization. Everything you do will be in Destin. FWB has some good parts, and Shalimar isn't bad either. Just depends on which base you are stationed at. Niceville has the best school system if you have kids. and its only 20 min away from FWB
What school is GCC??
