Experiences w/Recruiters (Hospital)

Published

I am curious...What do you think about my situation?

I been employed in a hospital for many years & our human resources department is AWESOME!! I get a thorough follow-up no matter if it's a phone call or email. Maybe because I've been an employee there...I don't know??

For the past year, I've been wanting to obtain a part-time position closer to where I live & my experiences with this Recruiter at this "OTHER" hospital has been the worst I've ever experienced. NO follow-up courtesy email or phone-call whatsoever..after 2 messages left about an interview I had over a month ago for a RN position on Med/Surg/Tele Unit.

I get-it...I wasn't picked. With as much experience as I have, I'm probably too expensive for that company to invest in as a staff RN on that unit?? I probably should try out for that Clinical Supervisor position instead....but why should I even waste my time...

What I don't get is the proper respect to even get a courtesy reply..Even a "a decision hasn't been made yet" would've sufficed. So frustrating!!

Sorry to hear about your experience! This is just the way it goes sometimes, unfortunately. Recruiters will very often not even take the time to inform a candidate of their decision. I have had a similar experience and it is indeed very frustrating! I'm with you on this one :(

i would've been fine with an automated email that says something like "the position you have applied for has already been filled, thank you for interest...." etc...

How big is the hospital? How many open positions do they have? You may be one of hundreds of people they are dealing with, and unfortunately they cannot give everyone personal attention. Also, depending on the size of their HR department they probably have a lot of other things going on in the background than returning a phone call.

@BeachyRN2Be This hospital is 140-bed hospital that is barely a year old. It is owned by a for-profit company that has 2 other nearby hospitals in the area. I understand that there are a lot of applicants, but all I ask is even a measly automated-generated email that says that the position has been filled or something....

Anyway, I learned to not take it personally anymore:woot: IMO, if I or any of my family had an emergency...I wouldn't take them to any of the facilities here...I'd rather drive 30 miles away & get a speeding ticket & rush them to the hospital I work for..OoOps, did I say 2 much?

I feel the same as you OP, even if I am not offered the position, I would appreciate at least an e-mail notifying me. I know this isn't always how things are done, but it just seems inconsiderate to me to, as though I'm not even important enough to let know that I didn't get the job, lol!

I'm a tie up my loose ends, button everything up, plan ahead kind of person, so maybe that's why I feel this way.

i know right? in this day & age of emails..how hard is it to send an automated email. i can understand not so much for those who didn't get to the interview stage, but I at least had an interview-and I waited for a month before i left 2 messages to the recruiter for a follow-up. if she didn't want to call me back with the bad news...which i already had a feeling after not hearing anything....then at least send me a cheap email LOL!

Yes, I think since you did interview and then left 2 messages to follow-up, the professional thing for the recruiter to do would be quickly return your call. I understand they cannot call back hundreds of people but just ignoring those who do call to check on status is just rude
