Hi! I'm a new grad starting on a general pediatric unit at a children's hospital. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions of books to get for reference that will help me become a successfull pediatric nurse? I was looking at Pediatric Facts Made Incredibly Quick! (Incredibly Easy! Series). Would this be beneficial? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, TIA!

I think that would be a great reference for general pediatrics. Make sure it has a resource for maintenance fluids calculations, pediatric drug dosing calculations and normal vital signs for all age groups. If possible get a pocket edition for a quick reference only. You will learn so much from seeing patients everyday and your preceptor. Are their any specialties on your floor? Or is it straight general peds? If there is a specialty on your floor (neuro, GI, renal etc) I would say get a book about it to look up common disorders/ lab values you will see often. Good luck.... Keep me posted of how its going. I was so excited when i got my first nursing/peds job.
Thanks I will definitely keep you posted! I don't start for a while though, but my unit is general peds/ infectious diseases and they also get a lot of neuro. I will keep my eyes open for some pocket editions too. I am beyond excited!!!
