Just wantin to know if starting a a new nurse in the NICU is a good thing to do? I love children and have four of my own and have had two of them that spent time in a NICU. I feel I am a fast learner and do well under stress and pressure but just want to make sure I am doing what will help me the most to be successful in my area.

If you can find a nurse residency program that allows new nurses to start in the NICU that would be a great learning opportunity and a great start to your career.

Sure. Lots of academic centers take on new grads and prefer them because they are easier to "mold" (besides experienced NICU RNs, of course).

I went into NICU as a new grad and it was pretty tough, but doable and completely worth it. Good luck!

I started in the NICU. Its especially nice if you find a hospital that focuses on teaching. They love to hire new grads :)
