Hello, I am a new grad RN as of May 2011. I interviewed at a private company that the federal government contracts out to, to run a minimum security corrections facility. I really hope I get this position! The background security clearance takes 4-6 weeks to complete. I am so happy to see that there is a specific place on allnurses that caters to correctional nursing!

I graduated and got my license as of 4/2011 and started at a State prison last month and I love it.

What is there not to love about correctional nursing ???:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe
And i mean it, I cannot imagine myself doing any other kind of nursing.
Get some experience under your belt, and then apply with the state (benefits, retirement, etc), and aim for a high security prison (it is safer!)
Keep your eyes open and good luck! You are going to love it!
