Hello,
I just enrolled with excelsior lpn to rn and i am now very confused about the whoke process.
1-Upon enrolment, i have to wait for the advisor to proceed with my officia eval when nothing has changed with my prior eval, but ok.
2-I cannot do anything, take any class prior to that eval being done.
3-how long is that eval is going to take is unknown, weeks, according to my "advisor"
4-upon enrolment and reading a lot about the program here, i finally chose the multi option and was expecting to be able to pay the 8 remaining tests at about $365-395.each. i saw the price of some of the tests at $1600-1900 each. Am i missing anything?
5-i have budget less than $7k to do it all, can anyone explain me if i am doing, understanding the cost and the program wrongly?
Rgds.

I'm not sure why you are asking us, as opposed to going to the source?
Would you really trust an Internet stranger's answers over Excelsior's facts?

Online strangers knows best. Forget what you have been told if it's on the internet, it must be true.
Maybe, just maybe you did not read and understood me well. I am asking for further clarification/information on the program. I have already spoken with the advisors with minimum help (read above).
I am asking for any excelsior students if they have had similar experiences and if they might be able to clarfify nor expand their experiences in helping me. In no way, i have asked anyone to voice his/her opinion without offering any guidelines already expressed.

You are not understanding the program. Did you download and read the nursing catalog? Everything is explained in the Associates degree section. Courses are more expensive (you pay per credit), exams are less (flat fee, plus what the test center charges you). Tuition and fees are here: Excelsior College | Excelsior College Costs & Financing for Nurses — please make sure you have a firm understanding of the costs, including the cost of the CPNE, the student services annual fee, and the graduation fee. These are common sources of complaints despite the information being readily available.
This might also be helpful to you: https://allnurses.com/excelsior-college-online/the-excelsior-college-808335.html
It will not take long between paying for enrollment and being ready to test as long as nothing has changed. You have to realize that Excelsior has more than 16,000 enrolled students in its ADN program, so they are serving many students and it's a process. But if you don't understand something, ask until you get the answer, and you understand the information — that is their job.
I don't think you're going to make your budget of less than $7K. I'll break it down, and this is assuming no requirements outside of the nursing stuff:
$100 - application fee
$1065 - enrollment fee
$2840 - nursing exams, $355 x 8
$480 - Pearson Vue fees for exams, $60 x 8
$380 - FCCA courses
$2275 - CPNE
$495 - Graduation fee
Total, without considering travel/lodging for CPNE: $7635
And that is assuming you don't go past a year of enrollment; if you do, that would mean an extra $495 for the student services annual fee for a total of $8130. Because the wait for the CPNE is long (currently about 10 months) and you cannot test of of the FCCA (those two courses are 8 weeks long each but can be taken together), it's nearly impossible to finish in less than a year. Now if you get everything besides the CPNE done in less than a year from your enrollment, they will DEFER (not waive, but defer) your annual fee. The school recognizes that it's not cool to charge someone who is waiting on THEM. lol.
Good luck!

What Pixie said. I started in sept 2015. I had 6 credits I transferred in. For all of my general Ed credits I took classes at excelsior, straighterline, and ALEKS. I started my nursing exams 5 weeks ago and just finished my 6th exam yesterday and still have two more to go. God willing I will be in the FCCA classes that starts June 27th and goes 8 weeks. Once I am done them I become CPNE eligible and have to wait for a test date. I doubt I will get one before September 2016 but you never know.
So all said and done it has taken me a little over one year with constant classes and tests!
Hope it helps!

None of the exams are 1600-1900 only the classes are that much. If youve been an lpn less than 5 years you may be able to have one nursing exam waived. But definitely read the nursing catalog it tells you nearly everything you need to know and you can take a few pro reqs outside of excelsior to save money too but not the nursing exams.

The lower prices are for testing out of the class. The higher prices are for taking the actual online class.
As an Excelsior graduate I would, for your own good, STRONGLY advise you to reconsider Excelsior. Currently they have a ONE YEAR wait for the final test. This means that after all you classes are DONE you will wait ONE YEAR for your final. If you fail that final you will wait ANOTHER YEAR to try again. IF you fail that one you will wait ANOTHER YEAR. So according to Excelsior's own site your RN degree could take up to FOUR YEARS and if you fail the last time you are OUT. No credit will transfer to any other school you are out FOUR YEARS and all that money.
Think HARD before you choose excelsior!!!

Hi
Sorry to burst your bubble but as an Excelsior Grad here is a bit of reality. My wife is currently in the Excelsior program and the CPNE wait times are currently ONE YEAR. Thats one year AFTER you have all you testing application information approved. She had all her information approved Feb 6 2016 and as of today 6/9/16 she was told she will not even be INFORMED of her test date for another 2-3 months and that the actual test date will not likely be until January of 2017! Then if you fail you will wait another year???
Not trying to be a downer but I want you to understand that being done in a year is not realistic anytime soon with Excelsior.

Mike,
Did your wife limit her testing hospital to only one hospital? I know they said to pick at least 3 hospitals to lower the wait time. I know there are some who call every other day for cancellations and do get in early also.
And as far as the credits not transferring I believe that is only the nursing credits. The general credits, of which there is 31 required for the ADN, are transferable.

Thank you all for the inputs. You were rights about the $, I just had the confirmation. Will move forward pending the final eval.
