Looking for major advice on obtaining my A.S rn. I am currently an LPN and have been one to two years in Mass. I recently got laid off from a state correctional facility and decided it was opportunty to endeavour.
As of march 09 i signed up wit the college network ( a lot of controversy) , however during my investigation, i learnt that using the excelsior study guide and taking the eight ( classes and exams) and i believe one Nsg concept class, i should be able to take and pass my boards.
If this sounds right please kindly advice me.
Also can this be done within four months ( not having to work)?
????How many hrs of study a day is recommended?
I am using the txt bk suggestions from the excelsior study guides and answering the questions at end of ea chap.
What i s the best way for me to ennsure success, please any advice?

Hi, Have you applied to Excelsior yet. They will give you an unofficial evaluation of the credits you already have and what you still need. After you have the prerequirements done you can take Health safety (nursing 1). Then you can enroll in the college. There are then 6 more nursing classes the fcca and then the CPNE. If you have the prereq's done, it's possible to do the nursing classes in 4 months but you'll have to study continuously. They're not easy course's. The CPNE wait is 4 to 8 months.

You wont get it done in 4 months. My friend did it in 10 months and another friend did it in 8 months. Most finish the program in 1-2 yrs. Some takes them an eternity! It depends on if you have completed all your prerequisites and how knowledgable and motivated you are about the nursing subject. I took a test every 2-3 weeks. I completed the program in 12 months but had to wait 2 months for graduation. You need to give yourself at least 3-6 months to study for the CPNE. Excelsior is a challeging program. Set realistic goals and acheive them. Good Luck to you!
Thankyou so much, more like thanks a million. I am not currently working and have started the essentials of nursing care: Health and safety
What is CPNE? is it necessary to take classes like the essentials, chronicity, pharm ? or can i go straight to NC1,2,3,4 and whatever else?
i have been an lpn for two years, and am currently utilizing the txt bks from the EC study guides to prep for EC A.S RN & NCLEX.
I am currently umemployed and trying to accomplish this thing within the time frame of recieveing UI benefits and i have about 4months left of UI ( unemployment benefits)

The CPNE is the monster 3 day clinical that you take after completing all your nursing test. It takes at least 2-6 months to get scheduled and currently they have a 58% pass rate. Most people pass it on their 1or 2 attempt. You can take it 3 times but if you don't pass, you will be dismissed from the program for 5 yrs and have to start all over again. The CPNE cost $1950 each time.
What study materials should i be focused on whilst attempting to obtain Excelsior LPN to A.S RN . Shiould i use the txt bks suggested on the study guides , as well as NCLEX bks and my old LPN txt?

Sounds like a plan, but you can use any texts or other resources you desire. Look for those texts on the various online book websites so you can save money on them. Some people have even found them in the library. I used to go to the library and put in an interlibrary loan request for books to study for EC exams. For the $1 fee I paid for the request, I got the use of the text free for my upcoming exam.
Kindly accept my immense appreciation for your advice/encouragement. Im using flash cards, as well as reading the entirety of materials. Any suggestions as to ways to conserve on time ? Is my method the same you used ?
thankyou so much meme048. your advice definitely has addressed directly some of my insecurities. i am very thankfull.
about the six classes? will those be essentials of nsg care: chronicity, essentials: reproductive health, essentials of nsg care: health safety, essen: etc?

The FCCA is a focused clinical exam. It's pass/fail. It's worth 4 credits. It took me 7 months to do 8 exams, which includes Lifespan Developmental Psychology. Are your pre-reqs done? A&P, micro, etc. You really need to have your transcript evaluated by EC, which is your ultimate guide of how to proceed.
ONCE again kindly accept my immense appreciation for ur advice. I intend on having EC evaluate my transcripts asap as i have been adviced.
I am pretty sure i have my prerequisites. I just need to send for them I have Micro, A&P, Human growth and Dev, Psych....
Thankyou once again
