Hey Dolly, i'm not a grad, but i'm currently taking my tests though EC. I'm moving back to the Dayton, Oh area...thought i'd say hello!
Hey Tasha!
Glad to hear you will be in the area soon...i am looking to make a sort of study group via internet/physically meeting up once in a while, to keep the motivation high...would you be interested in that sort of thing?
Anyways..how have you found the courses so far?
Any tips/advice before i make the plunge?

Dolly,
I am not from Ohio, but Michigan.. I live in somewhat of a "conservative" area when it comes to health care. (Grand Rapids to be specific) Anyways, I read in the Michigan forum that GR area hospitals do not hire Excelsior grads as a general rule. One of the hospitals even posts their RN openings "Graduate of a traditional nursing program that included 500 clinical hours." So, you may want to contact your local hospitals or wherever it is you may seek employment after graduating.. Not trying to put a damper on thing.. I'm sure I'm probably the only one with this circumstance.
Hey Erin,
no on the contrary, forewarned is forearmed !!
I did contact the ohio nursing board and basically what they wrote back was that if its ok with the NY nursing board its ok with them..so then i wrote to the NYNB and they said EC was fine with them...
i will double check with hospitals in this area that are hiring!
thanks for the heads up!
i have > 500 clinical hours in an overseas medical program..would that count towards nursing clinical hours?
dolly,
i'm going to be working 3 - 12's a week (i hope) so getting together wouldnt be a problem! I wont be home until the first week of sept. and currently i'm working on A&P...i had hoped to test by aug but with me preparing to move and all that i'm not sure i'll be ready. I've just started with the program so i'll be trying to move right along to get it all finished by next summer. what all do you have to take? i need all the nursing one's except the 2nd since i'm an LPN already...i need info lit, a&P, micro, and growth&dev/lifespan, i think that's it but i still need to do the official review of my credits through EC to make sure. those are just the ones i know for sure right now.
hi tasha,
good to hear back from you.
will definitely get together and see if we can do a study group thing once in a while to keep us all on track ..
as far as i know i have to do all the nursing concepts courses, and a few others..about 10-11 courses in all.
then for the cpne.
could u tell me the least expensive way to sign up and take NC 1-7?
i have heard that NC 1 and 2 are ok to do even before yr admission is finalized?
actually from what i understand is that all the general ed tests can be taken and NC 1 before actually enrolling. if you are already an LPN then you dont have to take NC2. I like the modules from the college network, but you can get them on ebay for MUCH cheaper than going through TCN. for micro and A&P i've bought the recommended text book a few editions back. Spent about $20 on each book.
The only gen eds i have are Micro, A&P, Info Lit, and growth & development. then all the nursing ones and of course the cpne. I've started with A&P but with trying to move, it's gotten placed on the back burner for right now. once i get settled back in ohio i'll hit the books harder. I want to take a test a month if i can.
