I am licensed as an EMT-I, CNA, and work as a med tech in military hospital. According to Excelsior, I do not meet their clinical requirements to enroll because I am not a LPN, and have not completed 50% of nursing school clinicals.
I saw something in a post on here about taking Excelsior exams for the first couple nursing concept exams, and then enrolling with them later for college credits. Is that something that could be done in my situation? I am not trying to bypass the clinical requirements--I have plenty of opportunity to get hands on clinical experience with my job. I just want to find a way to get into the program. The waiting list for nursing programs in SoCal are very long, and being a military wife, by the time I got in, we'd be moving again.
I know about the Excelsior/California thing. But I am a legal resident of another state and we will be moving back there before I even get close to licensure issues.
Any idea, or am I just out of luck till we move again?

there are other qualifications to make you eligible for ec. one of those is a paramedic. you can take the first two exams without being enrolled but in order for them to accept you and for you to continue you will need to be a paramedic, lvn , rrt or complete 50% of a rn program ( there are other requirements but they involve chiro's and midwifes) . there is no way you can by-pass the clinical requirement with ec. you will be under the new curiculim and will have to take that assessment test (i cant remember the name right now) and the dreaded cpne. hope this helps.

I'm sorry to say that I don't think EC will take you with what you listed. However, if you get your paramedic first you could enroll (seeing as you're an EMT-I). I don't know how much longer that would take you. I wouldn't take any exams until you know for sure that you can be admitted. I know how it is to be anxious to enroll and get the ball rolling.

How difficult would it be for you to do an I-to-P bridge? Excelsior will accept EMT-Ps to do a P-to-RN. :)
