Excelsior confusion.....

Published

Hi. I'm a newbie and feeling like a real doofus. I'm hoping to appy to Excelsior this spring and trying to get all my ducks in a row. I'm planning on taking the Clep test at my local college for English with essay and Sociology. Had hoped to do more (as the tests are only $50), however, while going through my Excelsior packet, it lists Humanities - 6 credits. Not sure what this is. I looked it up on a clep site and it lists alot of greek mythology stuff. Can anyone explain to me what Humanities is in correlation to a clep exam. It looks like I can take the Sociology test for the Social sciences credits and the English with essay for the english credit. I'm not sure what Humanities is or what information literacy is. Does that make me illiterate? It seems like I'm taking two steps forward and three steps back. Can anyone pleeeaase help me. I'm pulling my hair out. Any input would be greatly appreciated. If anyone would like to email me to help out or to just tell me I'm an idiot and I should throw in the towel, please feel free to do so. Thanks in advance for your time.

Information Literacy is a one-credit online course that explains how to collect and critically evaluate information for research papers and other projects. You'll learn about using web and library resources, things like that. Not difficult at all. Don't sweat it. It's not a prerequisite to the program, just something you have to knock out before you finish.

As far as humanities, these are things like art history and music appreciation. I'm not sure if there are CLEP tests that will give you humanities credit, but I believe that Excelsior's American Dream exam will count as humanities and I bet there are others. Best to check with the advising office or school catalog to be sure. :p

It can be frustrating to get things figured out, but hang in there. Send me a private message if I can help with other questions.

pj,

I am currently taking excelsior and have just finished all the nursing requirements. I am awaiting a date for my clinical exam. I ran into a problem with the english-

THEY DO NOT ACCEPT ENGLISH CLEP:angryfire

you must have either taken eng101 or take one of the classes they offer.

They would not except my english clep.

Other than that no problems.

Good luck with your endeavors'!
