I am a lpn that just started in a nursing home in the rehab section of it. It sucks. And i tell ya im not a complainer type of person either. But the cna's treat me like dirt & walk all over me. They take hour long breaks, don't do there showers, don't turn & position their pt's. then i tried several times to be ascertive with them in order to get things done but that didn't work so finally i spoke up tonite (i was very calm & mature ) & all this one cna did was act all ghetto, told ME I WAS LAZY! & he even raised his voice to me! Lazy!!!! i never even get a break!!!! I tell ya i was scared & the so called supervisor she lives in a trailer park & says to me "oh yeah that's just the way he is"- WHAT!!!!!! (i was thinking). The other nurses that were there & have been there for like years suck too-they just said "oh ive never had a problem with him" The same nurses that took credit for my work 2-they came to my cart while im doing a med pass & asked me everything about an admission that had come in that nite on our shift-and made the care plans out of that!!!!! then i overheard them braggin to the next shift "oh yeah & i even got the care plans done for all the new admissions. WHAT!!!!! Then the day after i passed my boards exam this i go to work & this place leaves me alone on a floor all by myself!!!!!!!! i sucked it in & did the work but i was crying by the end of the nite-& the the shift nurse helped me quickley finish up. I really don't mean to complain but is this just the nursing home atomspere or what? Does any1's else's job suck like this????

I am a lpn currently lookin into excelsior college for the lpn to rn degree. Does any1 know how their clinicals work? How do they run & when & with who? is it like a regular school with the instructor & ten other students & 10 page long care plans? Does any1 recommend the program? :)
The clinical part is given over a weekend once you have completed the nursing concepts exams (it is a performance exam that gives credit of pass or fail upon completion..no teaching involved) and are within 9 credits of completing the generals. It is given at one of many regional hospitals the school has contracted with. I know they have them in New York, Wisconsin, Atlanta (I went there), Texas, California, and soon to be Florida (Tampa). I am unsure of the exact cities, other than Atlanta and Tampa. The clinical is something that provides NO teaching. You are observed giving 1:1 patient care with a clinical evaluator. The clinical evaluator observes you carry out the patient care assignment...you must do it with complete accuracy or you will fail. You can fail one adult situation and one pediatric...you must pass two adult and one pedi situation. They also have a lab portion of the exams that includes IM/SQ, IVPB med, IV PUSH, and packing/sterile dressing of a wound. Should you fail a lab you may repeat it once...but again it is done with complete accuracy. The school sends a big study guide to assist with prep. They also have workshops and internet classes. You must write a perfect patient centered care plan for each patient, implement it, and evaluate it. I will tell you the truth...this is a tough exam! (but it can be done)...
