Which test? Download the study outline from the EC website. It tells you the areas covered on the exams and gives you the suggested resources to study. You can get additional resources from various sources: ebay (under Excelsior College), Flashcards: The world's largest online library of printable flash cards, the yahoo Excelsior College nursing groups (look in each group's files sections for study material).

Step #1- down load the excelsior content guide for your exam you are studying for (Health & Safety)
#2- order textbooks listed in that study guide (some of these books will be repeated later on down the road in other study guides) also get an edition or two previous as it's WAY cheaper and still has the same info.
#3- (my personal preference) i would look over the study guide and see how many sections and % those sections were worth, and give myself a time line to study EXAMPLE: H&S has 5 sections i believe, so section #1 was done week one, section #2 done week 2 and so on (or section #1 theses 3 days, section #2 in 4 days) however you have time and think you can get all that reading done ...i read fast so i do mine in a few days at a time for each section and test every 2-3 wks...anyway give yourself a DEADLINE to be done with each section so you have no excuse NOT to do your "school work"- I go ahead and register for the exam here for about 30 days out, in order to give me some urgency and a deadline to be done by! If not i'm a HUGE procrastinator
#4- about halfway through the reading purchase EC's practice exams online (they are worth their weight in gold and some of those exact questions and/or new questions based on all the rationales will be on the actual exam) it's $65 and you get two practice exams
#5- finish the other half of reading/note taking (i'm not a note taker while reading but i do hilight and sometimes make flashcards- again its whatever is YOUR best way of learning)
#5.5 (this is only for me but i paid the monthly fee for RNBridgeProgram.com - LPN to RN Bridge Program | Parmedic to RN Bridge Program | because i like the audio lectures with power points, and that's where i take my notes- sometimes i do this when i'm tired of reading, and sometimes i do them first and then read the text and a couple of times i JUST used rnbridge lectures and passed the exams with C's) just a thought if you feel stuck, it is $100 a month but you can cancel and restart at any time...i paid for it and so far have paid for 2 mo but knocked out 4 exams =)
#6- after doing all the reading/answer questions at end of the chapters etc i take the final practice exam
HINT: practice exams scoring (50-60 = C, 70-80 = B or A on actual exam) anything UNDER or very close to 50 go back and review those sections
#7- Take and pass your exam! =)
#8- Rinse, Lather and Repeat... =)
I started May 2010 and took H&S, slacked off and didnt take A&P until Aug, then buckled down and did Info Lit (Sept), Transitions (Sept), Reproductive & Chonicity (oct), Life Span 1 (Nov) and will finish the last two nursing theory exams this month.
It will take you the first two exams to really get the way you want to study, I now mostly use the rnbridgeprogram even though I know i'm only going to get probably a C at least it's passed and i can move on! So basically you can go as fast or as slow as you want or life lets you.
