Excelsior Anyone?!?

Hello,

I worked as an LPN for almost 30 years and used Excelsior to get my ASN. I've been an RN for a year now working in Dialysis. In my opinion it was far less stressful and expensive to use Excelsior for this- you just need more motivation and discipline for self study. It was way more convenient as well doing it at your own pace and in your own home basically. I plan on trying for my BSN soon. I would recommend it only to LPNs with at least 2 or more years experience - having that base experience counts for alot especially when you go for the CPNE. There are alot of online yahoo groups for student support that also help a great deal. Good luck to you!

Hey,I just started with the EC program pre-req's(Micro) I think it great it is affordable but I'm feeling the anxiety of self study and questioning if I am going to retain the information

Just happen to browse the forum and wondered if you could explain the steps you went through to get your Rn licenses for Ga? :idea:

Did you have to get the Rn in another state then endorse to GA?

Georgia lets you license by endorsement. I applied to the state of Virginia to take state boards and then took them in Atlanta. Its all computerized so you do not have to physically go to another state to test. After I got my Virginia license - I got my GA license by endorsement- not a big deal

Hello everyone,
I would like for any Georgia LPN whose completed Excelsior College online LPN to ASN or LPN to BSN program to provide me with their wisdom and knowledge. I am truly interested in everything from the price to sucessfully completing the program and being able to work as an RN.

I found Excelsior the way to go. I did not have to give up my job or give up my family time. I just gave up alot of me time. But I was really motivated by the pay increase and was able to complete the program in a little over a year (but I had alot of my pre-reqs like: A/P, micro, English).

EC was the way I went.

Not to sound all "elite" - but I found it very straightforward. Passed all written --- From Nov to March the following year. Took a wait for the CPNE - passed it in straight sets too.

The main problem that I have found with those that try the EC route is that they let themselves get overwhelmed easily. In essence, they get themselves stuck before they are even close (or maybe will never get) to stuck.

Use the EC published (free) study guides. Use the summaries in texts. OUtline and then JUST DO IT! Avoid publishing houses - too expensive for little benefit. (IMHO)

Remember that you are a GREAT nurse. You have succeeded at nursing already - this is just another step in your journey - GOOD LUCK.
