I am interested in doing Excelsior and I live in FL. I called the BON and They told me they didn't recognize excelsior..but I know there are some nurses where I used to work done Excelsior and they are licensed in FL..does anyone know how to go about this?

They may indeed be grads of EC but worked in another state for a while, and then accepted in FL. I know WA. requires EC grads to work in another state for 1,000 hours.

There are plenty of recent Florida EC grads here -- I think you got some bad information.

FL BON had changed rules in January of this year (when I had one test left, lol)

Ok, on the website they say this:

"Q: Can I apply for a nursing license in Florida if I graduated from Excelsior (formerly Regents) College?

A: Applicants who have passed the NCLEX and have an active license in another state may apply by endorsement. Complete licensure examination applications submitted will be presented to the Board for review and a decision (pursuant to section 464.019, (1), ©, 1. Florida Statutes): © The programs nursing major curriculum consists of at least: 1. Fifty percent clinical training for a practical nursing program, an associate degree professional nursing program, or a professional diploma nursing program."

So, I got my RN via EC, then apply to MN BON (they are very fast and great people to work with) , passed NCLEX (at local PersonVUE, you do not have to travel at all), then I transferred my license to FL. Cost me extra $105 for MN license plus about $5 for fingerprints and 2.5 weeks of time. There is no requirements of working for another state for any number of hours.

Actually, here is the recent news: Florida BON - Nursing for Nurses

FL BON had changed rules again, now everyone can apply to license via exam. Good Luck!

Excelsior is now accepted just as an other Nursing School. I graduated in May and FL BON recommended that I wait until July 1 to apply, a new law went into effect that allowed EC grads to apply through examination and not having to apply through endorsement like Happydrunkcat and others had to do.

I sent my application in on July 2 and on the 18th I received my ATT from PV and on the 20th I got my learners permit from the BON.

Good Luck to you

Orlando Central Blvd or something like that, it's off the South OBT 1 light south of Lancaster and west of the Trail. I think there is one in Altamont but I didn't bother going up there cause I'm down near Sea World.

If you need any more help email me and I'll try to send you better directions.

Hello do you know where to take exams in orlando florida? need help

I will be sitting for boards for FL. I spoke with someone from BON and was told they accept EC grads because their school is like a traditional school. Meaning they are accredited institution. I am soo happy they changed rules.

Thank you guys so much!

I actually had called the FL BON && The lady told me they didn't recognize it..but this was back in February, so the changes makes sense. I've been debating between ISU && Excelsior, but all the paperwork for ISU and plus the clinical site that ISU says is already contracted indeed is not, so it is like an act of congress to get something going, & I don't want to get into the program and something like that detour me.

I Feel better! *deep breath*
