For credits? I got my credit review back from them (Excelsior) & I'd like to do this as cheaply/quickly as poss & need the following:
6 credit in humanities
3 in english comp
2 in sociology
2 in developmental psych
4 in Anotomy & physiology
2 in microbiology
6 in arts & sciences electives
This is in addition to the Nursing concepts & clincal, so as you can see I have a lot of work/testing to do! I was a little disappointed that they didn't accept more from my LPN cert & work exp toward the as degree but such is life. My questions are does Excelsior in general accept CLEP test for credit & is it cheaper to CLEP out as much as possible? Also how much of these credits can I test out on before I have to bite the bullet & enroll (and pay the fee?)?
I've looked at all the LPN TO RN courses at the community colleges in my area & most have a waiting list of 2+ yr.s . This is the best route for me to go while continuing to work, I think.
Thanks in advance for help answering these questions!:)

You should contact the EC admissions office, they'll answer all your questions Seems they would accept CLEP tests , though, since that's what you're doing to earn your RN through them.
Best of luck.

Here's what I CLEPped for EC, so I can give you a definite answer on at least these:
CLEP Analyzing & Interpreting Literature for 6 Humanities credits (you'll get a letter grade for this one).
CLEP Biology for 6 Natural Science credits.
CLEP Sociology for 3 Soc. Science credits.
For the English Comp., I believe you have to do that through EC. Also, I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that there are no CLEPs available for Micro or A&P, so you might have to take those courses as well. Hope this helps.

Yes, they do. And DANTES (which I believe are $75 for civilians - yes, civilians can pay and take DANTES tests) as well. I took the Russian History one because somehow I'd gotten through three years of so-called "regular" college without taking history. Someone at ECU had given me credit for a class I'd never taken!
Contact an advisor to find out how they distribute the credits for your particular program, because they can differ (say, from the business degree to the BSL). Use the 1-888 number; the people there are just lovely!
http://www.collegeboard.com is the website for CLEP. And the other poster was right; there are not CLEPs for the sciences you mentioned so you'll have to get them elsewhere. But do web searches for distance education courses - you don't have to do everything there. JUST BE SURE WHOEVER YOU PICK IS ACCREDITED by one of the national regional accrediting bodies - and that Distance Education Board you'll see in some places isn't one of them. (I mean the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; Northern Association of Colleges and Schools; etc.)
You can also take courses at a local community college and transfer them to Excelsior. Ring them up and get the details. :)

I just finished RN program in thru excelsior in May 05. I used some Chancellor study guides to get through some tests. currently selling the humanities study guide on ebay and this is for the CLEP test. Have several more I intend to sell if you're interested. I paid around $250 each for them, thinking of selling for $50 each. PM me if your interested. Good luck
