Hi,
I am about to graduate & have postpartum job waiting me. I absolutely love OB but I always have a nagging feeling that I would love criticial care. Just wondering to hear any stories from those you who did both.

I worked in ob (L&D, PP, nursery) for 6 years and it was great. When I started looking into getting my msn I decided to try taking care of sick people since my pt population was mostly healthy young women. I went to a PICU because I just couldn't see me going from 2 pt's in L&D to 8 pt's on the floor. At any rate I really enjoyed the PICU and don't regret if for one moment. I recently switched to adult ICU and I hate it, but I think this is unit specific and not that adults are worse. In the beginning you may think "what have I gotten myself in to?" but with time you will find that it is totally doable with an ob background

I don't know but I do know a lot of OB nurses and they are very special people who thrive with Moms and babies in any setting so you could always look at like a NICU or PICU setting.
God bless you all that work with babies. :bowingpur I just can't do it.
