I am having surgery in the morning. One of my first students who graduated a year ago is staff on the unit to which I'll be admitted. He's fabulous and I would be honored to have him care for me. But it's that whole pillow hair thing. Know what I mean? Don't want to be seen without make up and clean hair.
Silly, I know. But there it is.

Oh yes! When I had my last baby (2002), I had a number of former students take care of me. Make-up and clean hair was the least of my concerns.....know what I mean? They were wonderful / very professional.

you're worried about pillow hair when a whole lotta other parts will be hanging around???

Think of it this way: you'll have the firsthand opportunity to see if what you taught stayed with them.
My student was not on duty, but I had lots of great nursing care. I asked about my student and heard great things about him.

I've had a bit of a different situation - a former long term patient of mine ended up being my student! She was pregnant and on the High Risk Antepartum Unit where I worked. She had twins and preterm labor and stayed for over a month. Then 5 years later she walked into my clinical group. Both of us kept staring at each other until suddenly she said "I know where I know you from - you were my nurse on antepartum!" Then I remembered her too. She turned out to be a wonderful student and it was fun to hear about the twins and see their pictures.
