ETOHer...(and other slang)

I was talking to my farmer friend, and told him about the term ETOHer. There is other inside slang in our profession, such as Code Brown, Frequent Flyer, Drug Seeker, etc...

What's your favorite? Some of these are regional of course.

A local nursing home which closed several years back was once cited by state for multiple nursing staff charting resident suffers from "FMPS." Legend has it one of the surveyor's questioned the diagnoses after seeing it charted multiple times  and issued a dignity cite when she found out it meant fluff my pillow syndrome. 

In the SNF I worked for we had a bulletin board in the breakroom for facility  postings, some comedian put a label on it "BOHICA BOARD." It actually lasted quite awhile before somebody took it down. That meant bend over, here it comes again

Acronyms I remember reading in Physician Reports back in the 80's:

FUF: Feces Under Fingernails

FLK: Funny Looking Kid

Hyperdraumademia is evident on inspection. I treat room temperature BP until it’s BP compatible with life. Most of our drunks and ODs end up MTF, metabolize to freedom.

Emergent, your post reminds me of something Robert Downing Jr once said:

"I'm allergic to drugs and alcohol.

We called it "HyperDramaticus".

Surprised not to see the description "Walkie-Talkie" for an ambulating patient who verbalizes------ maybe sensible, maybe not. If not, speaks in"word-salad".

FLB: Funny Looking Beat on an EKG strip, when it looked wrong, but we were not sure what it was.

Yeah, that one was 40 years ago, hence "EKG" instead of "ECG".

I use that one. I also use EKG. Because I'm old.

Had a coworker get spoken to for using the term "died" (in hospice care! Not even to parents or family - to other staff members). He said he might as well start saying they crossed over with John Edwards.
