RN's are required to have IV certification to work in Nursing Homes in SC? Can anyone shed any light on this? I've been an ER NURSE for over 8 years, starting more IV's than I care to think about. I'm now Director of facility which told me I had to take a 2 day course to be allowed to start IV's. Crazy!

Just do it. You should get paid anyhow. Stupid, I know. I work in the ER and one facility and cant start IVs at the PRN facility I work at because they have an IV team. Supposedly I can only do it when they are not there and only if I get "signed off" according to IV therapy RN, but there is no course I can take or paper I can use to get checked off etc.

Well isn't that interesting? Congratulations on your new role. I guess it's their way of checking you off on competency, which is silly, given your experience.

Oh well, (shrugs), whatcha gonna do?

Which facility are you directing?
