Entry level hospital job

..........any Arizona students have one? Say, CNA or lab tech or food service? Any places easier to get a job at?

I have been applying for some of the local positions, mostly at one hospital near me. I have not been "trying too hard" yet, only doing the online apps, not the pounding the pavement, dressing up, networking.....you get what I mean. I am trying to keep my FT higher paying job as long as possible.

Anyway, as you might imagine, I have not gotten any replies from the hospital. I am not certified yet as a CNA, so maybe that is why. I notice that many of the hospitals in Phx metro area are online app only and don't really give you a name or place to contact someone else in person. Can anyone share with me their experience in how they got their entry level job without any specific hospital experience other than NA clinicals???

Eventually, when I quit my job, I will put out every effort. What sorts of things do you think I can do that will increase my chances of obtaining employment?

Also, does anyone know of any way to refresh nurse assisting skills in prep for the board exam to get certified, other than just reviewing my book??

Thanks in advance,

Janice

You need to attend an approved program to be able to sit for the NA exam to get certified.

A unit secretary is now called a Health Unit Coordinator and they attend school just like nurses do.

Are you currently in a nursing school yet?

My suggestion is to actually go into the hospital and aply for the position. Talk to people in the Human Resources Dept. If you are trying to do things on-line and they can't see you, ????? This si the best way to go about things since you don't have the experience behind you right now.

Hope that this helps..................First impressions really do help. :)

Depending how desperate they are, hospitals may be more interested in hiring someone that will be there a while, especially if they are planning to train you. Just a thought.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I did the nurse assisting class. I just have to "study" to get certified, but my skills were barely used. I would actually prefer to get in to the hospital in a non clinical capacity and then look for the clinical job after nursing school starts and I brush up on the skills.

I guess I just stupidly thought that they would call me since I already have one degree and am entering nursing school. Guess I'll be pounding the pavement! It will be a bit before I quit my current job, so I guess I can chill out for now.:)
