Foot care training

Nurses Entrepreneurs

I have been interested in starting a foot care service for some time now and after reading posts from LoisJean feel this is something I can do. I would like to start out by receiving some kind of training but cannot find anyone who provides this type of course.

I have been in touch with LoisJean who has given me wonderful information about becoming an independent provider performing foot/nail care however I would like to take a course of some description to make myself more prefessional. I found a course titled "Foot & Nail care for Nurses" which sounds absolutely perfect but it is Wisconsin and I live in New York, I cannot find anything else closer to home.

If anyone has crossed this bridge already and can offer any advice I would be extremely grateful.

Hello, This is my first thread on this site.I am a wccn, wanting to become a cfcn.Does anyone know where I could obtain info on classes offered in the Chicago area?I've been to the Wound,Ostomy Continence Nurse website, not much info I could find.Any info would be appreciated.

I would recommend reading thru this entire thread if you have not done so already.

This is an exciting field and much needed, check with your state board of nursing to find out specific requirements, protocals directives that may already be in place.

I wish you much luck in the future...let me know if I can help you.

No you need to look at your rn state board...in my state there is a 3 page directive on foot care for nurses....your state may have the same directive in place, when I lived in arizona there was not any guidlines or directives in place so it is different for each state.

sorry if I was unclear about this.

Emory University in Atlanta, GA has a Diabetic foot/nail course that is sponsored by their WOCN department. Go to www.surgery.emory.edu/wocnec/programs.html..... sometimes finding the link to the course is hard to find but search around the WOCN site and you should find it. They have a course every quarter or so. I'm planning on attending the next one... whenever that will be... hopefully in January.

I saw the brief info about the 2 day course but did not see the actual class date of the class, could you post more info on this?

thanks bizi

I would love to go to this!

I am keeping in touch with one of the instructors there and she emailed me yesterday to tell me that they have not scheduled the course as of yet but that she would email me when they do. Just a suggestion... they need at least 6 people for the class to take place and that's why the Nov. class was cancelled. If others email the instructors maybe they will hurry up and schedule another class soon. They take no more than 12 students at a time. I've heard it is a good class that really helps prepare you for the certification exam.

thank you so much! I will try to figure out how to email her and let her know that I am interested. I am only an RN with out any special certification in another area, hope that is ok for me to take this course?

For some reason I can't PM you. Go to the Emory website (WOCN) and click on faculty/staff. I have been corresponding with the 4th person on the page... you can email her that way.

I don't have any special certification either, but am diabetic and anything regarding diabetes is my "forte." What I learn for myself I just pass it on to my diabetic patients, but really want the certification in diabetic foot/nail care.

thank you I was finally able to figure it out.:bowingpur

I will email the instructor and see when the next dates are taking place.

For me I would rather the training be later on in the spring.

This is exciting. Do you know what the costs are?

Do they have on site housing or you stay in local hotels, I live in louisiana so I would probably drive...???

Where do you live?
