Hey Guys,
I am a new nurse, 6 months on the a med-surg floor. Im off today but my manager called me about the count discrepancy of methadone in the omnicell. The correct count should be 20 but for the life of me I entered 10. It happened on Sunday. The bin closed as soon as I realize my mistake. I called the charge nurse and pharmacy to help me correct the discrepancy. I did try to resolve it, it shows discrepancy resolved. This is the second time in 2 weeks that I made a mistake in counting. The drugs are there, and no drugs are missing.
My manager said that I can be audited when it happens again. I am so scared that I might get fired because of this. I know it's my fault for rushing. I know I should have taken my time to count. There were two blister packs with 10 tablets each. I counted it as 10, ughh.
I don't want to call my manager back and ask what should have been done in case it happens again. I am beyond worried that I cant even do anything.
What should I do?
I feel like going to work just to speak with my manager. I just feel so uneasy.
