English Nurse wanting to move to the USA

Published

Hi, Im due to qualify in a few months time and understand that the process to move to the states takes a few years which would suit me as it would allow me to gain experience. I was just wandering if anyone had moved from England to the USA and if they could give me a rough idea of the process.

Many thanks

Vicki :)

What are you doing your training in? Generally UK nurses have problems now meeting US state requirements. Starting point would be meeting state requirements then find employer willing to wait the 6 plus years and will file immigrant visa for you

Thanks for reply. Im studying adult nursing. What is the 6 year wait for? And do you know what are the state requirements are? I would love to move out to america but it seems like an impossible process x

Each state has their own requirements and some require a US SSN to submit application, CA and Vermont comes to mind. The wait is for a visa allowing you to live and work in the US. Generally nurses get immigrant visa EB3 and employer has to file for it.

Suggest you read up on retrogression which has been ongoing since Oct 2006. US requires nurses to be general trained and have clinical and theory hours on transcripts in Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult
