For all of you nurses out there, in your experience, do Emergency Departments hire nurses straight out of nursing school or do they tend to hire experienced nurses only? Is it hard to get a full time position? Most of the listings I've seen at the hospital are for part time or temps.
If all goes well I'll be starting nursing school in September and want to work in emerg and would like some reassurance that I can find a full time permanent job in my chosen specialty.
thanks!

Welcome to the reality of nursing. There are more part time and temp positions around than full time. At one point, I was casual at three different facilities. I could work full time that way, but without benefits, etc.
Apply for any position that you feel qualified, sometimes you will get it. If you don't try you won't know.
Just remember that inside applicants get first go at the jobs offered, so you may just want to take a position as a casual to get into the system.
Good luck, but be careful what you wish for. I landed a position in a dept I had always wanted to work, and found I couldn't stand the job.
Good Luck
