Employee health nurse

Published

Anyone here an employee health nurse at a hospital? I have an interview on Monday and just wondering what some of the day to day duties are? I know they keep track of immunization and tb stuff but what else is involved. I will obviously ask this at the interview but wondering what should be some goo questions to ask. This will be my first non bedside nursing job if I get it.

Yes! I worked there on and off for 5 years, and it's been by far my favorite job as a nurse.

My day to day was to clear new employees, volunteers, etc. for employment- if they did not have titres, we drew them, if they did not have up to date vaccines, we administered them, also PPD admin and checks, flu shots, etc. If there was a flu break out, or the CDC or DOH put out an alert, we had to follow. We for to deal with co-workers with substance abuse. We cleared people back to work after injuries or illness, there was a lot of teaching.

My director was an RN who was a fearsome COB with a heart of gold. It was completely nurse run. We had one doc that started with me as a resident, and he was very mellow and let the nurses run the show. W also had a PA, and an NP, but they answered to COB.

We closed at 4. We closed for lunch.

I got to see everyone I worked with ALL THE TIME, which was amazing.

The only reason I left was because they did not have enough hours for me. I wanted FT, and they only had PD.

GOOD LUCK! It is a great job. You will learn so much.
